A&W Canada — Restaurant in Castlegar

August 3, 2025, here for breakfast with my lovely family before leaving from the YCG airport nearby, and was appalled at the sub-par quality of customer service at this establishment.

My mom ordered a teen burger and complained that it was dry and tasteless. This already started the experience here poorly.

I ordered pancakes during their breakfast menu, and my meal came out with melted cheese on top of one of the pancakes. I went up to the front register and politely showed the cashier, who nodded and said, “oh, it’s just a little cheese”.

I then kindly asked her if she would please remake just the one, and she ROLLED her eyes with a dramatic sigh, yanked the plate across the counter and slammed it down on the counter behind her, loudly and irately asking the back workers if she could get a new order of pancakes.

Seriously? It doesn’t come out of your cheque. Stop being so damn sulky that you have to do your job. There wasn’t even anyone at the counter. What this woman did was absolutely shocking as a service industry worker and was entirely uncalled for.

I understand that this is a fast-food establishment and I shouldn’t expect stellar service here, but it left an extremely sour taste in my mouth saying goodbye to my family to return to university and being publicly embarrassed by this resentful, arrogant older woman.

I feel guilty leaving such a bad review because the other younger girl was incredibly sweet and just stunning with her personability. She seemed like a positive person and was consistently in a good mood. She was extremely kind and ran the food to our table for us! She was on top of making sure everything was tidy and put away. Disappointing Breakfast Experience

I recently ordered an All Canadian breakfast to go from A&W, opting for all sausage and no bacon. I placed my order around 6:50 AM and received it by 7:20 AM, which felt unusually long for a takeout order, especially considering the restaurant wasn’t busy at the time.

I was traveling from Castlegar to Nelson, and when I finally opened the box in Nelson, I was met with disappointment. The toast and sausages were completely burned, making them inedible. Unfortunately, I couldn’t return to the store as I was running late for a ferry. To make matters worse, I had to throw away the food, which made me really sad.

This was my first bad experience with A&W, which is usually quite reliable. The staff who prepared my meal seemed totally ignorant of the quality standards expected. Given the price, I expect quality food, and this experience fell far short of that. The only redeeming part of the meal was the eggs and hash browns, which were the only items that were edible. I went there along with my few friends, some of my friends are vegetarian and so we had done some customization to those orders and ordered some items from the menu straight but the representative was like we are about to close so you guys ordering stuff right now is not appreciated. What does that mean we can order till the outlet is closed not just till it is about to be closed. We ignored this incident but it happened again, yesterday (5th September) we were on our way to somewhere and had to stop by the drive through, and by our bad luck the same girl (the night manager) was there and as four of us ordered she said four of us ordering through drive through is rude and next time we should go inside and order instead of ordering through drive through !! what does that mean that in case we are in rush we should not stop by the drive through which is actually meant for this purpose just because she doesn’t want to serve us for some reason.
