Upon entering the store I was hit with this stale old smell and there is nobody there to greet. Immediately noticing how deserted the place is, I see a server sitting down and upon noticing me, she instructs me to sit anywhere.
I asked for orange juice, and was brought out a small glass of watered down concentrate orange juice, it had this sweet taste to it, I barely drank any of it. The server was polite enough, not friendly but this is not unusual for the service industry in Edmonton. After reviewing the menu, the prices were pretty standard for casual breakfast, between $10-$15 for breakfast meals, there were not many options, just your standard eggs & sausage meal and omelette options. No french toast, no pancakes, I gather this isn't much of a breakfast place to begin with.
Upon ordering, I received my food quite quickly, considering I was the only one in the place ordering a meal this didn't surprise me. The food itself came out warm, eggs were good as was the toast. It was a hearty serving of food. Unfortunately, the hash browns were repulsive, it was almost as if they cooked the hash browns, then soaked them in grease before serving them, they were mushy and the sheer thought of them makes my stomach churn as I write this. The sausages were standard, nothing special, I only had one of them.
I noticed the clientele coming into the restaurant was made up of older men in their 50s and up, I suspect this is more of mature pub then a place to get a decent meal, I know that now more than before. I should have gotten the message when I walked in, the place being deserted, to walk back out as that in itself was not a good sign especially when there were other restaurants I had walked by with quite a few patrons.
I did provide a basic 15% tip when I paid for the meal, it came to a total of $17 (with tip). I could have paid the same at a chain restaurant like Dennys or Ricky's and received a more pleasurable meal. I would not recommend this place to anyone, if you are in the area, go elsewhere, don't be lured in by the charm of supporting an independent local eatery. I went in, open-minded hoping for good comfort food, and I left disappointed and underwhelmed....
Read moreI had a very bad experience on July 22, 2014 at Teddy's. I have been going there for 20 years and have always enjoyed this restaurant. However, tonight was the exception. I ordered an 8 oz new york steak medium well. The meal was brought, and within several minutes a male came to ask how my meal was?. I told him it was excellent, it was, due to the fact that I hadn't had the opportunity to really taste my steak yet. The waitress was not around at all. My steak was extremely WELL done. I ate everything except my steak and waited for opportunity to address the issue with her. When I did, I was under the impression that I would be sending the steak back and receiving a replacement. It was so tough I couldn't even cut it. She apologized and I waited. Over 15 minutes passed, I inquired and was told that I would not be getting another steak, that I should have notified her sooner. She advised I could speak with someone else. I did so and was told that I would not be receiving a replacement, that he had asked and I had said my meal was excellent. He then said " you were just to full to eat your steak". He was extremely rude and abrupt to me. He told me if I wanted I could take my leftover steak home, and that I was required to pay for the meal. I requested the steak to be packaged up and said I would speak to the owner tomorrow. I was then told by the waitress that "they no longer had the steak". It was a very awful, unacceptable experience!!!, where was my steak???, why couldn't I take it home??, if I was paying for it and told I could take it home??. The male then said, "give her 25 percent off and maybe the lady shouldn't come here ever again". I paid the bill and left the restaurant. After 20 years of loyal business, this is what I receive?? I will not be returning there. I will take my business elsewhere. This was disgusting customer service and they...
Read moreDecided to try Teddy's, a staple in Edmonton for years, seeing their advertised Oiler's game specials. I had always heard good things about it many years ago and since it is still in operation, thought it would be a great experience Upon walking in it is clear this is a "neighborhood" establishment and what I presume to be regular patrons stared and did not make the place very welcoming. The server was very friendly and welcoming, so decided to stay. Received water while looking at the menu, upon tasting it there was something foul in the smell and taste. Upon reviewing the burger special it was clear that it was essentially their regular cheeseburger and fries combo, although served without cheese and without coleslaw. It was $4.50 cheaper, although if you wanted cheese the cost was $2.50, which means the coleslaw is valued at $2. Ordered wings and the Teddy Burgwr instead of the Oilers special...it came with cheese, bacon and sautéed mushrooms. Instead of the Teddy Burger I received the special amd sent it back...I was told it was the mistake of the kitchen. The wings looked burnt and upon notifying the staff who delivered the food, she said that's just how they look due to the spices... upon tasting the wings they were definitely burnt...sent them back and asked to be taken off the bill. When the proper burger arrived it looked squashed... the bun was toasted, although flattened, which changed the texture of the burger, making it crunchy, which was not to my liking. The patty itself was tasty and moist, although overall due to the bun it was not enjoyable. Very unfortunate...left after finishing and did not stay to watch even the first period. The server was fantastic and apologized several times, asking me to try again...
