Restaurant misses the mark but the pies nearly hit the bullseye.
The food seems fast and fresh til you analyze the expensive ingredients, like the meats and cheese. Highly processed chicken chunks, cheeses that are more modified cultures than natural dairy.. the sense of freshness comes from everything but the expensive ingredients. Want to freshen up a pizza? Throw a few sprigs of arugula on it and now people think they're eating a salad.. we get it.
This is the kind of place you'd find in the ignored corner of a mall in hopes to gentrify it and capitalize on the low rent. Pizza is hand food. Hand food is street food. If you've been to Italy, you'd see that fast, simple and fresh are the keys to a good pizza, yet for whatever reason, this restaurant sits on the corner of one of the busiest and congested intersections in the city and has barely a sniff of comparable foot traffic. Perhaps they're banking on the current development at the university.. but anyone who knows street food knows that convenience and value are the two major keys to success, of which Blaze does not master. The basic pies are adequately priced simply for their taste and freshness. You can grab and go with a friend, feel satiated and can be on your way without the guilt of overspending. But once you add drinks, and any modifications, your $10 chip-in to split a pie becomes $15 and then $20, for barely feeling hunger relief. This doesn't mean it's not worth feeling like you ate some quality ingredients to fuel your body, but for this location.. where I'd argue 90% of the walking passers-by are value oriented shoppers, it's a pretty ridiculous location. It's as if the restaurant is 5-10yrs too early and 10°C too cold to accommodate the kitchen staff. The dining experience is pretty terrible which only furthers the argument that it's a grab and go street food mentality that somehow juxtaposed in the most ridiculous...
Read moreThe place looks amazing as it is new. The employees work there seem so frustrated with their job. They don’t put enough toppings on pizza even if you keep asking them to. The employees are very rude. I used to manage Pizzahut in Ontario. So, i know that making pizza is an art but, some franchise don’t see it that way. I think Blaze Pizza’s employees need extra training on how to behave with customers.
The girl who was putting toppings on my pizza was very rude. When asked her put onions on my pizza, she only put 5-6 pieces of onions on pizza. I kept asking her to spread the toppings so, there could be equal amount of toppings, sauce and cheese in all parts of pizza. But, she only put everything in the centre only on all my 3 pizza. My all 3 pizzas were Vegetarians only as we don’t eat Meat. The person on the cut was going to cut my pizza with the meat cutter and I had to stop her right there. But, she was nice enough that she accepted her mistake and she then cut them all with clean cutter.
I think I should have taken the photos to share here but i forgot as i was so disappointed for choosing Blaze Pizza at that point. My family and friends have decided to not visit Blaze...
Read moreWe really enjoyed the relaxed feel of Blaze Pizza - it has a sort of chipotle feel to it. There’s lots of parking available outside. You line up to order your food, and then choose your own seat, there is no table service. Counter Service was fast and food was fresh. The establishment is very clean and the staff are friendly and helpful, explaining to you how the process works if it’s your first time. You see them make your pizza with the fresh dough and cook It in the pizza oven. I ordered the “White Top”without bacon and added olives. It was unfortunately pretty flavourless - I expected it to be garlicky but I think maybe they forgot to add it. My husband ordered the BBQ chicken and he really enjoyed it. The cheesy bread we had for starter was absolutely delicious, best part of the meal in my opinion! Pointers for improvement would be to have more dietary options (Gluten Free, Vegan, Vegetarian etc.) but overall a good experience and we’ll...
