During our visit to Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, my wife, son and I stumbled upon a hidden gem of a restaurant called Brits Fish & Chips. This quaint eatery not only serves amazing fish and chips but also offers other favorites such as poutine. From the moment we arrived, the host, whose name I believe was Cyrus or Silas, greeted us warmly and went out of his way to assist us, especially with my bulky wheelchair. His kindness and attentiveness set the tone for a fantastic dining experience.
As we settled into our seats, I inquired about local beers and received a wonderful recommendation from Cyrus or Silas. I decided to try the Canadian Molson, which was delicious and hit the spot. My wife opted for the Strongbow Apple Ale, and she described it as crisp and refreshing. We decided to go for the halibut in traditional fried batter, and we were blown away by the quality and taste. The fish was incredibly fresh, light, and flaky, with the batter providing the perfect amount of crispiness. My wife even declared it as the best fish and chips she had ever tasted, and I wholeheartedly agreed.
The restaurant is housed in a Heritage building, adding to its charm and nostalgic feel. The decor exudes the traditional ambiance of a classic fish and chips establishment, creating a cozy and inviting atmosphere. I recommend taking the time to learn about the Heritage House and its rich history, adding another layer of appreciation to your dining experience.
Brits Fish & Chips goes above and beyond to accommodate all guests, with a pet-friendly patio out front and excellent accessibility for individuals with disabilities. This attention to inclusivity and comfort further enhanced our dining experience.
Overall, Brits Fish & Chips was a standout restaurant during our seven-day cruise, offering not only exceptional food but also exceptional service and ambiance. I highly recommend this establishment for a memorable and delicious dining experience in...
Read moreWe were super disappointed with our meal and experience, especially given we were told it was the best in town by local islanders. We’re not sure if it’s because the original place was sold, or what, but it definitely didn’t live up to the hype.
It started off by our waitress who didn’t know how to make a Caesar drink and admitted she’d have to look it up. We were sat across from the bar so we could see everything. She was getting guidance from another waiter (they both appeared to have to make their own drinks as there was no bartender). Once getting the drink, we had to ask for ice, and so our waitress walks over to the bar, grabs the ice scoop and tries to poor ice into the drink at the table. She realizes it might start to splash, and then decides to bring the drink to the bar to add the ice.
For food we ordered 1pc halibut with fries and calamari appetizer with sweet potatoes fries. We were hoping to order the “calamari platter” entree that is on the menu online, but it wasn’t available to order in the restaurant which is why we ordered the calamari appetizer and side of sweet potato fries to make our second meal.
Honestly-we really wanted to like the food but it wasn’t very good. We had to ask for the “garlic sauce” that was supposed to come with the calamari, but wasn’t plated when it came to the table. The calamari tasted like it was cooked from frozen and/or flash fried. The kicker was that the sweet potato fries were clearly bagged and cooked from frozen and cost $11.00!!!!!!!!! $11.00!!!!! The fish tasted like the oil from the fryer. I’ve had better fish and chips from restaurants in Ontario.
All-in-all we will not be returning. We hope it was a one-off, but not sure...
Read moreWe were avid fans of Brits when ever were in Charlottetown, because of their gluten free menu, That is up until last August! We had planned to visit there, at Least 3 times while we were in town for 9 days during Old Home Week, of which my buddy (who suffers with Celiac disease), and I are involved in the harness racing events. We had some other friends joining us, and had told them how great the food was, and was reasonably priced. YEAH RIGHT!! The previous times we visited Brits, everything was great, including the prices, but to our COMPLETE shock the last time, we couldn’t believe how much they had boosted their prices! We found that not only had increased, but not a small amount, but at Least TWICE the price, but on some menu items, it was almost 3 times the price they had been previously. Take note that this is NOT a “fine dining” restaurant by ANY stretch of the imagination. It’s just your average, old style fish & chip joint, that happens to have a gluten free menu! By just recently looking at their menu, apparently, they think that they’re running a “Michelin Star” establishment. To us, they just priced themselves out of the market place! We DEFINITELY will never darken their doors again, unless they decide to come back down to earth, and...
