I've ordered from Sushi Yama several times through Skip the Dishes. The food is fantastic and the prices are great. Today, I placed an order through my daughter. 3 of the rolls were incorrect. No big deal, it happens, so we contacted the restaurant per Skip the Dishes. The lady on the phone, Naomi Van Santen was INCREDIBLY rude and unprofessional, literally insisting we were lying, so I offered to take pictures of what we received, as we had not sat down to eat yet. She instructed us to send said photos to her personal Facebook through messenger. Then shockingly proceeded to continue to call us liars. Example: ordered a dynamite roll. Got some other roll with yam tempura in it. I sent multiple photos to her showing this and she insisted it was not yam at all. It clearly was and she couldn't deny it, so then she said "well the chef must have added that when he made them". Also sent a picture of the Crunch Gogo Roll that looked nothing like the picture in the menu, nor matched the description (and was entirely covered with lettuce and shredded cabbage). Again her reasoning was that "oh, the chef must have added that when he made it". Naomi was entirely unwilling to rectify the situation, we even offered to pick it up ourselves. She was rude, had a very entitled attitude so we asked to speak to a manager. Her response "well, he doesnt speak any English, but ok". The manager not only spoke English perfectly fine, but was also kind, pleasant and quick to offer to fix our order. He apologized, asked for our address and offered to have it delivered. An hour and a half passed so we called back enquiring about the food that should have arrived over an hour ago... Naomi Van Santen, still rude and unhappy responded with "oh. Well he told me you were picking up". 30 minutes later and more than 2 hours after the initial phone call, our order arrived and will now be sitting in the fridge, as it is almost 9pm and everyone is in bed asleep. We've never dealt with such a rude and unhappy person in the food industry. If people aren't your thing, then perhaps you should find a different job. Great food, absolutely atrocious customer service, at least on the delivery/pick up end. I did make my disappointment known to this employee via messenger, as she had instructed me to send the photos of our food there. Her reply included: "Take a look at yourself hun. Maybe you're the problem". This is NOT how you treat or speak to high paying, returning customers. Absolutely disgusting. I've never left such a bad review before... but theres a first for...
Read moreVery poor service. Food is good, that’s the sad part. We were told 35 minutes for 2 combo rolls which is fair. We showed up after 40 minutes and they ask “the 2 roll combos right?” and it looks like they start making our order… Paid and we waited an extra 15 minutes from the moment we walked in. We had to go so my wife asked the lady for a refund but she kept ignoring her. The other customers in the restaurant kept saying “excuse me she needs to go, she wants a refund”. The lady kept ignoring my wife and kept saying “it’s almost ready, just packing it up”. My wife just wanted a refund as we needed to go as we were late. They finally bagged the order and my wife was so embarrassed that she just stormed outside. Only to notice that half the order was missing… We paid $44 for just ONE combo roll??… how would they not realize they only made one of the combo rolls.
Worst part is that no one told my wife they were behind with their orders, or gave her an estimate. If the owner would’ve said “sorry we’re behind, it’ll be another 15, do you still want it?” then that would’ve been a different story… you inform the customer that you’re behind, that your “35 minutes” is more like 1 hour and you’re transparent about the situation. Worst part is that my wife kept asking for a refund and it took other customers to jump in as well…
Awful customer service, food tastes fine. Poor attention to detail too… how do you not realize that you’re missing half the order?
Would not...
Read more(Date of visit & review: August 9, 2024) I fell in love with the owner's kindness, the taste of the food, and the extra service he provided. This restaurant, which I visited during my trip to Chilliwack, is a favorite of my kids because they love sushi. I ordered their favorite dishes, and they ate everything. I even enjoyed one dish so much that I forgot to take a picture of it. While I was eating, I noticed that many people were ordering to go. From the way they greeted the owner and chatted with each other, it seemed like there were a lot of regular customers.
(Date of review: February 17, 2025) This was my second visit. I was in the Chilliwack area last Saturday for some errands and decided to stop by SushiYama for lunch. It had been a while since my last visit, and the owners were still as welcoming as ever. I had the Lunch Box(Sashimi & Sushi), Tuna Maki, and Hot Night Roll. The tempura in the lunch box had a tempting aroma as it came out, and the crunch when you take a bite really gets your taste buds going. The dressing on the salad was also delicious and made the meal even more appetizing. There was plenty of food for two adult men, but it was so tasty that we finished everything right there. If I lived closer to this place, I would definitely come more often, but it’s a bit of a drive from Vancouver West. I plan to stop by whenever I'm in the area though. If you're in the neighborhood or passing through Chilliwack, I highly recommend...
