It might be our fault for going to a smoked meat place to eat something else than that...
I asked for a classic burger with swiss cheese (I got orange cheese but close enough), lettuce, pickles and special sauce. I ended up being charged for a Mile End burger (which is a double cheeseburger... I had only one patty) this costs 4$ more than my calculation of the classic burger with swiss. I was told "it was cheaper that way than just the burger with all the individual toppings which are all extra" according to the waitress who explained this twice to me despite my protest that their own menu states otherwise. The 3$ extra to "upgrade" the fries to a poutine seemed fair when I expected it to be an upgrade... not a smaller portion of fries, one the size of my small hand's fist. I didn't mind when I expected a scoop of curds on top of a decent pile of fries. I only counted 4 curds (I could count them because the portion came in the same size bowl the coleslaw side came in). The scratch made gravy looked appetizing but tasted like flour. I like the idea of scratch made gravies since I've always had delicious experiences with them. This batc however, had way too much "roo" (what my man calls the thickening mix of flour and oil for gravies). I hope this was just a failed batch and isn't the original recipe because it was bad.
In fairness, the meat in both my burger and my man's Philly cheese steak poutine was cooked perfectly. In both plates, that was the star of the dish: juicy and cooked to perfection. Considering this place is known for meat, anyone going for a smoked meat sandwich should leave content!
But almost 43$ for a cheeseburger with a mini (nearly cheeseless) poutine, a Philly cheese steak poutine, and 2 fountain drinks?! That, in my opinion, was just wrong. Our waitress, after I protested the cost of the burger, offered to get the manager but by then we had settled on not going back and I didn't want to bother someone over 4$ and general unhappiness. Somehow she didn't get the manager and, instead, allowed us to pay while clearly unhappy. This, sadly, ended up cutting her tip to under a third of what I normally tip for this cost. At that very moment I was mad at her for charging me for something I didn't eat and I couldn't wrap my head around how a single cheeseburger could cost more than a double cheeseburger with the...
Read moreFirst off I will say My first impression was that this is a very clean friendly environment,
The place was busy so I expected good food and then after ordering I noticed everyone seemed to be eating pizza.
We ordered very simple, hard to mess up meals.
I ordered the Rockland Slam and my wife got the smoked meat platter.
The bacon on the Rockland Slam was so over cooked it just crumbled when I bit into it, the dark mushy hash browns had what tasted like a very salty powdered chicken soup bouillon on a portion of them And because it was only on a portion of the hash browns I thought they dumped it on my plate by accident.
The eggs were slimy, the rye bread ( supposed to be toast) was flavorless, the sausage was over cooked and dry, the French toast with dollar store syrup was not so good either but it was the best part of the meal.
When the waitress arrived I asked her about the powdered chicken soup bouillon substance on my potatoes and I was told that on my next visit if I did not want that on my potatoes I had to specify that.
The Smoked Meat Platter was very bland, the bread was supposed to be Rye but it was flavourless and soggy, the meat was so oily every napkin on the table was used and eventually the sandwich had to be eaten with a fork, the fries were no better, they looked dark and crisp but pushing my fork into one proved different, they were mushy.
This could be a really good place, it's clean, nicely decorated, seemingly cheerful servers but someone needs to take more time on the food prep. perhaps cook it as it's ordered and not so far in advance. We will stop in again to...
Read moreWe went there last night for the first time. We googled what time they were open until to be sure and google showed 10pm so we loaded the family up and drove there from Cumberland. We got there as a large party was finishing up and leaving. I was very very displeased by the way we were welcomed. One of the female staff rushed to the door and promptly ushered us out as "they were closed" it was 8:50pm? When I told her google showed they were open until 10 she abruptly told me I must have googled another location. I showed her the listing on google and asked to speak to a manager to address the issue. A young man came over and reasserted that they were closed, I went through the same explanation and told him we drove all the way from Cumberland after verifying the time. I was then told the advertising was wrong and they don't control what google shows, I know this to be false as I am a business owner and absolutely can modify my hours on my google listing. His solution when I told him we would absolutely never be returning to the establishment and that it is terrible business practice to turn customers away like this who want to spend money when you are advertised as open was for us to order something small and easy for them to make. We left and went to Boston pizza. We are so disappointed at the lack of professionalism we were shown that we will not be returning primarily because if that was the experience on the first visit how much...
