I'd like to give this place a higher review because it's a local restaurant and I can tell they put a lot of love into their food. However on this night in particular, they definitely did not have enough staff there to meet the large number of people there.
When we arrived at 8pm, it seemed like the dinner rush had cleared out so we got seated immediately. We ordered 8 entrees and chatted while we waited for our food. A good portion of our group was famished because they had been skiing all day, so we were really looking forward to this meal. After 20 minutes of waiting, the waitress told our group that we should expect a longer than expected wait for our food since their kitchen was backed up. I feel like this could've been said when we walked in - I don't think any groups arrived after ours. Some ladies in the table next to ours heard this and told us that they had been waiting 2 hours for their food! Now that's just crazy. I totally understand restaurants being understaffed in this hard time but we would have happily eaten somewhere else and relieved the pressure on their kitchen if they had informed us before we sat down. We ended up getting our food approximately 1 hour after we ordered which was not as bad as it could have been, but also by no means a normal or acceptable time to wait for food at a restaurant.
Now the food itself was good. I ordered a skillet burger, and our group ordered quite a few schnitzels which was recommended to us. The portions were huge and great value compared to the sizes you get in the Blue Mountain village. The burger wasn't the best burger I've ever had but it was yummy. The seafood schnitzel was tender but I wished the sauce had a bit more seafood in it. As pictured, it was mainly sauce. But the taste was good. One of my friends got the prime rib and it was humongous, as pictured. I should've tried that!
Overall I'm understanding that this is a small business and there are limited resources to go around. But there are a lot of restaurants in the area and if you're in a rush, this may not be a good...
Read moreMother's Day treat and was very disappointed. Went in around 6pm for dinner with my teen for mother's day. Ordered virgin daiquiri and water, daiquiri glass was soooo sticky with the sugar rim that had dripped down the glass, order two specials Shrimp and Lobster Carbonara with a side caesar salad and the Steak and Shrimp (ordered rare steak). Salad arrived to table about 30mins after ordering everything. Another 10min wait for the rest of the food to arrive after the salad was done. When the food arrived the shrimp and lobster carbonara had about 5 shrimp in it and a little bit of lobster (all seafood was over cooked because they were rubbery while eating it). I cut into my rare steak only to find it cooked medium well at best...it was barely pink inside. Also had to ask for him to refill our water "cups". While eating the potatoes and veg on my plate while waiting for the new steak, the vegetables were all over cooked and buried by the large serving of potatoes and the potatoes were partially on top of the red cabbage giving the potatoes the weird flavouring from the red cabbage. Brought up the issue with the server about my steak being over cooked and he starts using excuses from "its mother's day, it's been busy all day, there's others tables in the restaurant, etc...". It shouldn't take over 30mins for two simple dishes like this to be cooked even in a busy restaurant, and come out over cooked on both dishes. I asked him to take just the steak back to kitchen to have it remade as rare and he was going to take my entire plate of food back after waiting that long for my meal so I suggested he bring a plate to take the steak back on so I could at least eat while it was being remade. The then just kept apologizing and making excuses each time he came to the table. Yes he offered discount by manager on meal, but did not need to continue apologizing and making excuses. It had been many years since being to The Iron Skillet because of issues like this on other visits to the restaurant (not on...
Read moreExtremely disappointed, considering this restaurant has 4.2 stars on Google and 3.8 on yelp. My family and I are not from collingwood and decided to grab lunch at a local restaurant. Beyond disappointing. Our waitress was in some sort of bad mood and treated us with a sassy attitude throughout the service. We ordered the chicken parmesan, weiner schnitzel and the naked burger. The chicken parm was bland, dry and the tomato sauce tasted like tomato paste mixed with water. The cheese was barely melted and had to force myself to take multiple bites. As for the weiner schnitzel, the meat itself wasn't all that bad. However, the potatoes were cold and the corn felt like they took it out of the fridge and placed it straight on the plate. The burger was way over done (meat was black) and left a very unpleasant burnt taste in the mouth. The fries were soggy, not crispy. The coleslaw had an odd taste, it was most likely old. Even the drinks weren't great. We ordered the feature beer of the month (on tap) and happened to get dab beer. The beer was extremely flat, and felt like it was the bottom of a keg. Quite literally tasted like they mixed the beer with water. Awful, what a disgrace to the beer industry. How the hell do you mess up beer? The 7up had a chlorine aftertaste. I was really expecting a great, local restaurant with friendly staff. We got the totally opposite experience. I really wish I could rank this restaurant high. We couldn't even finish our plates because the portions are ginormous. We felt sick afterwards. I would advise to try the other restaurants in collingwood. Even if you are desperate, the closest fast food place probably provides higher quality dishes....
