Had dinner for a party of 3. Went in with moderate expectations - menu seemed good online and had some unexpected takes melding curry and western flavours. Once we got there and experienced the curry cottage we quickly realized we were in for a treat.
Service was very attentive and we ordered a full dinner including drinks and appetizers. Next time I would order more drinks, they had a pretty wide selection of local craft beer and spirits for cocktails. Got the kale pakoras as an appetiser which were crunchy and had a good dipping sauce.
For dinner our group got the spicy grandma yogurt bowl, spinach paneer bowl, and the kofta bowl. All were superb with colorful and elaborate presentation. More importantly, the flavour was fantastic, from the garlic naan to the spicing of the kofta cream sauce. No room for dessert but they sounded tasty.
Space itself is nicely decorated with local art on the walls (and for sale?). This is maybe a bit too detailed, but the metal chairs were comfortable and had a funky design (new and modern) but the booth/banquette material felt a bit dated.
Overall we picked this restaurant to change things up when we're in town visiting family, and will be going back to explore the menu more in the future. I highly recommend the curry cottage based on the dietary options, friendly service, and obvious attention to detail the chefs there take in...
Read moreThis meal was amazing (5/5)with super friendly and helpful staff (10/5) , until the end, which was 0/5.
The 0/5 was the most disappointing dessert I have ever had, so much so I threw out at all $6.50 of it, a price which it should never have been.
The most disappointing dessert I have ever had was called the Indian Trifle and described as saffron pudding, rosey mousse, and cottage cheese balls. I know what saffron pudding is, I have had it before and from that description I would expect a rasgula or maybe Ras Malai.
None of those was present.
What was present was some vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, a smidgen of a grainy rice pudding, and the hardest gulab juman ever with maybe some rose water sprinkled on it for the "rosey" flavour but just ended up with a weird clear liquid melting everything.
It seemed like they just took a little bit of the dessert ingredients they had on hand and through them together.
Now, either they were out of their ingredients for their normal desert, which they should have told me, or their description of the Indian Trifle dessert is a fever dream.
Unfortunately it took the delicious lingering taste of a good meal and left me wishing I didn't have to throw my...
Read moreTo put it gently, my visit to Curry Cottage was an exercise in tempered expectations. The atmosphere hinted at potential, but that promise evaporated in the details. While I understand that perfection is a pursuit rather than a destination, the glaring missteps suggest an unsteady foundation.
The food, though presented with care, lacked the depth of flavor one might expect from a restaurant claiming to offer authentic Indian cuisine. Instead, it was reminiscent of a faint echo—discernible but distant. Coupled with portion sizes that seemed tailored for an audience unfamiliar with satiation, the experience bordered on enigmatic.
Though cordial on the surface, the service carried undertones that made one question the intent behind certain interactions. A strange resistance to feedback turned the dialogue into an unproductive exercise in semantics rather than a constructive exchange. It left me wondering if customer input is perceived as an affront rather than an opportunity.
This particular establishment may find its competition daunting in a town teeming with culinary options. I sincerely hope they revisit their ethos and refine their offerings. Alas, for now, it remains an experience I am...
