I've been to this coquitlam joeys location several times now and I have never been disappointed until now. Before joeys opened in coquitlam , I always went to joeys burnaby brentwood. At joeys coquitlam location on Monday October 2nd, 2023 the receptionist with black hair who worked as front desk hostess working between 7-9pm and the waitresses working at this same time honestly was the worst experience I have ever encountered at joeys.
We entered the restaurant and there was a couple in front of us who looked like they had been waiting a while to be greeted and seated. After 5 minutes we got there waiting behind them, they gave up and left and who knows how long they waited before we even entered. We then proceeded to wait and after 5 minutes the couple returned. It has been 10 minutes now of me and my husband waiting since entering the restaurant. Another 5 minutes passed by and not a single staff from the kitchen 2 chefs who evidently saw us waiting and other waitresses walking around also saw us waiting and no one bothered to address the fact customers had been waiting 15 minutes just to be greeted and seated. Evidently we both were annoyed by this point and I went to approach a waitress setting up a table to ask who is working the front desk since no waitresses also wanted to acknowledge customers were waiting to be greeted and seated. As I was about to approach the waitress, a girl with black pants and black blazer with long black hair and medium skin tone walked out from the kitchen and I asked are you the front desk staff ? She confirmed yes and said she was just stepping to the back for a minute. I proceeded to disagree that was more than a minute when two couples had been waiting for 15+ minutes by now. As management, you can check on your restaurant cameras for this date and time when we arrived not a single one of your staff bothered to even acknowledge us to simply say 'welcome someone will be right with you' or even 'good evening how can we help you?'. Instead they avoided eye contact, did their best not to acknowledge the 4 customers waiting at front and left us to keep waiting. Our issue and complaint goes to the front desk hostess with medium skin tone, black straight long hair working front desk on this night of Monday October 2nd between the hours of 7-9pm when we left the restaurant.
On another note, my husband ordered his usual of the burger and the burger patty was ridiculously thin that my husband could have just gotten a mcdonalds big Mac and it would have been more meat for less dollars. We constantly order our usual every time so it is very evident the patty was as thin as mcdonalds and not the usual thick juicy beef burger patty. The difference is hard to ignore or deny and if anyone ate the same thing on your menu for past years now, anyone can tell there was a significant reduced sized patty.
Inflation sucks when prices go up in menu, and we empathiize business is hard, hence we continue to eat out to support our favorite restaurants. We also understand ingredients go up in price and also hours fluctuate for staff depending how busy or slow the restaurant is for business. However, when customers pay more on a menu, you would hope they return if at least the customer service is good but this experience was enough to definitely make you lose loyal customers. Staff want consistent hours and good tips but if customers get bad experience and dont come back, it is no surprise if the restaurant becomes less busy. The front staff is who customers first see upon arriving for first impression as well as their last impression when leaving. I have always been a fan of joeys food but this definitely has changed my mind about returning to this coquitlam location. I hope this review is seen by Joeys coquitlam management team to address your staff training...
Read moreOur visit started off fine, drinks came out quickly, and we were enjoying ourselves playing cards at the table. Unfortunately, when one of us accidentally knocked over a drink, the manager (I believe her name was Allison) came over to help clean up but made a comment along the lines of “cards and drinks don’t mix” and “we have to learn our lessons somehow.” Whether intended as a joke or not, it came across as inappropriate and left my friend more embarrassed than she already was. What stood out even more was that no replacement drink was ever offered by Allison nor did she tell our server what had happened because as soon as we told Maddie she got a replacement immediately, which in my experience in the service industry is usually standard practice. That said, our server Maddie was absolutely wonderful - friendly, welcoming, and attentive all night. She never made us feel like we were inconveniencing her, which we really appreciated. The other concern came at the end of the night when Allison offered free dessert in exchange for reviews, explaining they had a “review quota.” While the gesture might have been well-intentioned, it didn’t feel genuine. I left a 4-star review because of the earlier issues, but Allison later returned asking who had given the 4 stars, which created an extremely uncomfortable moment at our table. Being singled out like that felt unprofessional. She did not seem too happy as she shot me a note so friendly look as she left our table. Overall, I do want to emphasize that the food was great and Maddie was fantastic but I would be weary when being offered a free dessert for an...
Read moreSO DISAPPOINTED! I am visiting from Mexico and was excited to try this place because it had been highly recommended by so many friends here. The friend I went with is embarrassed about the recommendation. No issues with seating other than that the table had not been wiped before seating so I had to ask for that to be done. We ordered a Caesar, 2 Farmers Market Salads, Blackened Chicken and asked to have a Scallop and Prawn Ceviche prepared for take out. Only the blackened chicken met our expectations. I only took 2 sips of the Caesar. We were both underwhelmed about the salad. Take a good look at ingredients in my photo. I ended up asking for mine “to go” without even touching it. I had to remind about the ceviche and a cheese cake desert was compted. The salad was packaged in a box. When I arrived back to my room directly after dinner I repackaged the salad into plastic sealed container and saw the ceviche. That took my feeling of being underwhelmed to full disappointment. I paid $19 for the salad (will likely just toss that tomorrow) and $23 for the ceviche (no tortilla chips were included in the take out bag but there was a package of brownies). I have no complaints about the server and he was very friendly. The total cost was over $135.00. The photo speaks volumes. I suspect the chopping up of the ingredients hides how few full ingredients are used. I made the mistake of looking for photos of these menu items online after I settled in and that prompted this review. I RARELY leave reviews so the fact that I am doing so is a reflection of how bad this was. Hope it was just...
