So, my wife and I decided to check out Hannam because it's been around for a while, and it's across from a certain other supermarket... And it's still open, so it's gotta be doing something right, eh? As I walk into the store, I look around, confused - - strange, no baskets... How the heck will I shop?
Search around like a seagull on a beach and find a spare basket beneath a checkout... Had to evade an ajuma's stare of disapproval. Walked past several containers of what appeared to be vegetables, but... Upon closer inspection, they were actually educational displays on various stages of organic decomposition. I mean, two good onions amongst 200, that's what it's gotta be, right?
So all right, we are in the mood for hotpot and decided to take a chance on the "on sale" prepackaged hotpot set. It has some crab, some shrimp, some octopi, radish... What could go wrong...?
EVERYTHING.
The radish was lumpy; the cabbage tasted SWEET (as in, soaked in glucose syrup); the mussels melted in your mouth (as in burned by the freezer, not the good kind); the shrimp tasted like cardboard or were rather strange; the clams were either decent or tasteless... There were these weird "bags" that looked like seafood but... Tasted strange. And the crabs, which my wife and I were saving for last, as our last ditch effort to salvage the experience... She got cold feet at the very end and asked me to taste it. So, I cracked open the crab, took a tentative bite, and.... Didn't believe myself, was really confused, and had to taste it again. Holy toledo, I wasn't wrong...
The crab tasted like it was soaked in AMMONIA.
After this meal, we truly learned what "WTF" tastes like. I'd give Hannam five thumbs up if you're in the search for "otherworldly". Otherwise, for those of you whom value your taste buds and work hard for your dollars... Go...

The cashier told me to wear a mask so I told her I can not wear a mask. She roughly slammed my foods and didn’t put them into a bag, even though she put groceries into the bag for other customers. I asked her to put items into the bag, she refused and threw the bag as well. I told her she was rude and mistreated me. I explained to her about mask exemption and tried to leave there. But she yelled at me from behind “Wear a mask!” in front of other customers.
I asked about the owner to other staff, then a security guard closed in on me, totally ignoring social distancing, and suddenly shouted “Get Out!!” and “What’s your problem?!”. He kept threatening me to make me scared. I didn’t feel safe so I told him to stay away from me otherwise I would call the police. The security was so angry and excited, ended up a staff member blocked the security to stop him approaching me.
Other customers previously reviewed that the staff members were rude and foods were rotten. I should have read them so I could avoid this store.
They are against human rights law. The BC government explains about mask exemption on the website. The staff member and the security have to respect people who can’t wear masks and must STOP harassing or...

August 28,2017 , at 12:03pm , I bought about 35 dollars food at Hannam Burnaby store , a guy cashier was extremely rude and aggressive to me while I checked out , offered terrible customer services , I tried to buy one plastic bag when I found I could not carry these food without bag , then he asked me for 5 cent cash , I tried to pay him by credit card because I did not have any cash with me at that time , then he yelled at me , wave his hands to me , He was so rude that his spit spread onto my face from his smelly mouth with stink breath , He refused to sell me the plastic bag because I do not have cash , I told him that I have right to pay credit card as customers , but he did not care , I asked his name , He refused to tell me because he knew that I wanted to complain him . I went to customer service counter and requested to talk with the manager , a guy on the counter his last name is Lee refused to let me talk either the manager or assistant manager .
I was so disappointed at their service and returned the food that I bought .
