I got the promotional lunch special set katsu menu (12 PM - 4 PM). It included a large japanese pork loin katsu, 2 x deep fried shrimp, udon, and 4 small side dishes. Miso soup was also included. Starting with the shrimp and pork katsu, they were both covered with a delicious, light flaky panko covering. The deep fried shrimp was perfect. Super delicious. The shredded cabbage provided with it created a nice balance to the fried stuff :D I would have liked the pork loin katsu to have a stronger flavor profile when it is eaten by itself but the sauces that they provided made it perfect! There were two sauces provided: a Japanese katsu sauce and a tar tar sauce. The tar tar sauce was incredible. Udon was in a simple dashi soup and had some imitation crab, green onions, and seaweed on top. Solid side for the katsu. Side dishes were good and again were nice to have as a break between bites of the fried items. The side dishes included three different pickled veggies, kimichi, and fish cakes. The portions were large (especially the pork katsu, it was huge :O) and I left super filled. They offered to refill the rice and cabbage if I wanted to too! I came around 3:30 PM so it wasn't too busy. Super chill, nice ambiance with kpop music in the background, and I got to sit in a four person table by myself :D I was a really good experience. Will definitely come back with friends and family when I'm craving katsu again!

To end our night celebrating my wife's birthday, my wife wanted to have cheese katsu and she found this place called Katsuya in Coquitlam. Their menus looked delicious and so we invited our families to have dinner. We loved the place. It was spacious and the staff were nice and friendly and follow proper covid protocls, however, they do not seem to take reservations at the time and so we had to make sure to call in 30 mins before if they had space to accommodate our party. There's some discount available for those paying by cash but it was not so clear when we called in the restaurant. We thought by paying cash, we would get a 30% discount. However, the 30% discount is for those that are buying food to go and paying by cash. There's still some discount for 5% off for those dining in and paying by cash. I ordered the carbonara katsu and my wife ordered the gold + silver katsu. I loved my order while my wife's were just so so. Another plus is that there's extra order of rice and miso soup available for free for those dining in and we made sure to use it! Overall, it was a good dining experience but there are definitely room for improvement. We will recommend Katsuya to our friends and family.

First time here and it’s delicious!! I will point out all the main components of a restaurant here. First, the food here is delicious & consistent. This is an award winning chain from the east coast (Toronto)and a top 100 Yelp restaurant. The concept is such that the whole menu is a Katsu dish (Japanese style breaded cutlet) with salad and rice on the side with your choice of protein and sauce. Its a fusion place so above and beyond the regular Katsu found at sushi places with only dark meat, this one serves up chicken breast (if choosing chicken) along with other high quality porks, etc. the restaurant is new so it’s design is very trendy and they play great music (if you like dance / techno) which is a bit on the loud side. We were sat pretty quickly but service does lag a bit once seated. The servers are all friendly and nice though. Large portions & amazing appies as well. We tried the original (beige sauce), carbonara (white sauce with fish & bacon in it), Snow White chili (tomato sauce that tasted like butter chicken sauce) & cheese brick (which is only served with pork). All the breading is done with their house made bread they make daily. Loved it, will be back!

Stepped into the restaurant not really looking to eat but found the place open amongst many closed restaurants. Staff greeted me at the door and I asked for a menu which was promptly provided. A staff member (tall young man with perm) provided a thorough explanation of the menu and what different food options was available and the restaurant was about. I opted to dine in after the thorough explanation and genuine service even before I sat. Once I settled on an order the staff loudly shouted to the kitchen staff and proceeded to hand me utensils/water. Moments later I could hear a meat mallet being slammed against what can be presumed to be my order (pork loin cutlet). Not long after I sat down another customer came in asking to look at the menu and explaining they're unfamiliar with the concept. the food came out quickly. The deep fried loin was pleasantly plated; light tasting; and juicy with flavour. 5/5 food. 5/5 service. 5/5 ambiance. Seems like cabbage salad sides are unlimited too! Beginning to end this was 5/5. Came on Tuesday Oct 22nd 3:30pm. Katsuya - Coquitlam if you're reading this please recognize your staff for such outstanding service and delicious food!

Amazing katsu sets! They even have a bakery onsite that makes fresh bread daily for their breadcrumb coating on their katsu! This place is comparable to Saku but with less fancy ambiance and more katsu flavour varieties to choose from. Tried their sweet potato and cheese Japanese katsu set and would definitely get it again. It came with a tasty sweet potato paste on top that went great with rice or eaten alone. The katsu itself was also generously stuffed with sweet potato and melty cheese and nicely presented with dipping sauce and grind your own sesame seeds. Loved the crunchy crust on the katsu! The flavour was amazing too. The mushroom sauce pork tenderloin katsu was also good and the portions are generous. We also like the complimentary refillable miso soup. The only thing is their rice is on the firmer and drier side and could be softer, warmer, and steamier. They had a promo for 30% off if you pay cash while we were there which is a great deal! Would definitely come back for their katsu sets which are solid.

Excellent Katsu Joint! Definitely a must try place if you're craving katsu. The sauce was tasty and the katsu was hot and crispy. You also get free rice refills and unlimited miso soup. 😋 I ordered the Carbonara Sweet Potato Cheese Katsu and the sauce was creamy and delicious with great sauce to meat ratio. The size of the katsu was quite big and filling. I recommend you try the sweet potato cheese katsu - the sweetness goes well with the pork! Also my friend ordered the mushroom katsu which he seemed to enjoy. The service was friendly and fast. There was no waiting time for a table when we ate here on a Friday night. The interior was nice, bright and modern with plenty of spacing between tables. Parking here was a breeze with free ample parking lot and getting here by transit is also quite easy since it is right across Burquitlam station.
