Previous review below. Owner or someone replied to my previous response which was nice to hear and Learn about the quality of products used to make the baked goods.
I went back today, I had a meetings, so coffee shop was the vibe. I ordered drip coffee and a carrot cake which was recommended by the staff member.
I would like to point out that the young lady that helped me out was super nice and so pleasant to speak to. Hands down top notch customer service.
However, I ordered a coffee.. drip coffee, paid almost $4. For drip coffee, usually a refill of coffee is offered at least at coffee shops I’ve been to. When I went to ask for one, a different person and someone that has worked here from the beginning of this location tells me they don’t offer refills on drip coffee.
This is the first time I have ordered drip coffee here or to stay at least. But come on. I know I can meals drip coffee at home, which I normally do. This standard practice which I messaged a few people about it agreed that it was weird that they don’t offer a refill.
Anyways customer service great this time around. Refill on coffee policy is weird. The carrot loaf wasn’t as good as I thought it was going to be either. Previous review:
I have mixed feelings about bjorn. They have good coffee and good baked goods.. but it’s so over priced!
The sandwich - $16 Cheesecake Square- a little bit bigger than a toonie - $6 Loaf of sourdough that wasn’t as good as I expected it to be - $6 (I love the one from Brekka, this one not so much) Their other baked goods are in the same range or more.
I know inflation plays a huge role, but like I said mixed feelings. Would i recommend this place.. yes for an occasional visit. Not for a weekly visit though might break the bank, there’s other places with same or better quality and better prices.
One thing I do love…. Pumpkin Fritter… seasonal of course! But I got my entire neighbourhood dog group chat...
Read moreBased on the name I assumed it was French. I walked in. I hear French music, but the several menus that they have become very confusing with the name of the store. It's like they're trying really hard to confuse you. You walk in and you're just punched in the face with hundreds of food items, desserts, lunch drinks while also trying to be a restaurant. So what are you? Some of the stuff isn't labeled or made 11:00 a.m. in the morning they let someone barge in front of me and my girlfriend in the lineup, When it came to paying this blonde girl put my change on the table when I had my hand out handed my drink without a lid and I had to travel without them telling me didn't tell me I had to put in my own sugar When I realized that I didn't want to walk back in there. They intentionally didn't give the canned soda that we ordered and we had to remind them. The chocolate pistachio biscotti isn't even crunchy and it's super salty. It's inedible, disgusting and they call themselves French even though that is Italian cannot even taste those pistachio or the chocolate. I just taste salt Everything is ridiculously overpriced. My true French restaurant. Rude and snobby. Clearly judge us on the way I'm dressed or looked although there's nothing wrong about my parents unless they expect me to look glamorous when I walk in 11:00 in the morning.
It's really ridiculous how much amount of food they have they called their square- bars, therapist Scotty is thick and short which is really weird. When they say bakery, they're talking about dessert, not anything bread related Major disappointment. When I walked in there, I wish I was in Austria or Germany eating their bread because I was just not into it. Before I walked in I just knew I would have s* service. They didn't even offer me a receipt like they're legally...
Read moreWe have been coming here off and on since it opened. At the beginning the coffee was hot and the pastries were not over baked. Not sure if they have a different pastry chef or that maybe their eyesight is lacking but every time we are in over the past year EVERY bakery item is over baked. Some might say burnt but the items are not black, they are a very dark shade of brown but with certain doughs this could be considered burnt. We used to drool over the apple fritters but these days they are so over baked and covered in sugar they don't even look tempting.
Today we went in and only ordered coffee which would have been fantastic if it had been more than luke warm. Our mistake for not asking for hot or extra hot! But every pastry was so over baked the entire case just looked like the chef left the building when the pastry timer went off! The only thing that wasn't over baked was the turnovers, which we have had before and they are our least favourite thing on the menu. For the prices of this place it really is shocking to see over baked pastries day in and day out, especially with all the croissant dough items. They load all of them with chocolate, sugar or icing sugar to hide how over baked everything is. Very unappealing to say the least.
We did not order pastries and will not order them in the future if they keep this over baked trend going. Event the coconut macaroons were a dark shade of golden brown. Not sure why they think this is ok- perhaps they should go visit another bakery and see the proper way to bake things.
Sadly, I didn't have my phone with me to take photo evidence but we are not the only ones who notice this!
Figure yourselves out...
