I visited Donair Town in Coquitlam with my son and waited in line for ten full minutes. Just as we were about to order, a man walked in off the street, spoke in the same language as the owner, cut directly in front of us, and the owner served him immediately ā no acknowledgment, no explanation.
When asked if the man was just ordering or skipping the line, the owner dodged the question by vaguely saying he was ājust paying.ā When I asked again whether weād now have to wait for that customerās food, the owner still wouldnāt give a straight answer and just kept pushing for our order like nothing had happened.
The behavior was blatantly disrespectful, dishonest, and showed clear favoritism based on shared background or language. Whether the man was a friend, regular, or simply familiar doesnāt matter ā thereās no excuse for ignoring customers who were already waiting and treating them like they donāt matter.
I said āweāre goodā and walked out. I wonāt support any business where Iām expected to quietly accept second-class treatment in front of my child. And more importantly, I used that moment to teach my son that we donāt stay silent when people treat us unfairly ā we walk away with our self-respect.
The owner has lost my business permanently, and Iāll be sharing this experience so others know what to expect. In a city as diverse as Coquitlam, fairness and respect should apply to everyone ā not just to those who speak the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreTL;DR: Good food. Friendly cashier. Looks like family business. Flavourful meats, juicy chicken. The only downside is that the shop doesn't have air conditioning so it's especially warm in a summer day like this one. Great place for a quick biteof Donair if you're in a hurry.
Since this is the first time I visited this place, and that I have very little experience with greek food. I'm so glad that the cashier here is very friendly and helpful. I ordered something a little off the menu (chicken & beef fries, which cost $1 more), and she was very helpful in suggesting that I try it with tzaiziki and garlic sauce (I opted out of hot sauces because of the weather). I also ordered 1 Falafel (not a fan, but not awful either), and a Baklava, which is pretty good on it's own (but probably not the most ideal dessert for a hot summer day like this one).
Overall, their shawarma were great. If heat is an issue for you try eat it in the car or at the coffee place next door (which is a lot cooler compared to the Donair place, but have some manners and order...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreDecided to grab some dinner. Donair looked good and this place had rather good ratings.
Food: We ordered the chicken platter. I got the upsize (+$2), which meant, more meat š I had all the vegetables and sauces on the platter. The chicken was marinated and roasted well, a little dry, but given that I went a little late, it was expected. Rice was delicious, savoury and filling, wasn't too sure what stock they cooked it in, but it was amazing. Two options of salads, Caesar and Greek. I had the Caesar, it was alright. Nothing special.
Service: Friendly young dude. A little quiet. Quick prompt service.
Location: Pretty empty at 9pm. Rather warm given that it's summer and there wasn't much ventilation/AC.
Price: Approx ~$9/pax
Would I recommend? Yes. Meat portions are generous (refer to pics for clarity), food is relatively filling. Get the set meal(+drink) for better value.
