After coming here a few times, I've familiarized myself a bit with the menu. The staff seemed to have changed a few times though as well as the menu and interior design of the space.
The younger waitresses were a bit awkward, tentative to serve me and my friend. They even gave us water instead of the usual soup. Though understandable, it was a bit unprofessional when one of them went to squat by the door and smoke.
The food itself was nice, especially the kimbab. That's what they're known for. The spicy chicken with cheese however was not as pleasing. They just spread Kraft cheese slice on the pot and put a lot of gochujang in the dish. There was a little bit of chicken inside but mostly sauce. There wasn't even any fillers to add it to. (unless I'm eating it wrong) and it's $24!! That's wenty four dollars! With the portion they gave, you could barely feed a grown man.
It was extremely salty. The cheese and the spiciness just won't mix well. I had to down lots and lots of water just to get all that sodium out of my system. I couldn't sleep that night.
The cashier was also a bit on the rude side. I'll give her the benefit of the doubt since it must have been a busy day. When I thanked her she gave a weak smile and I knew she was just tired.
I'd come back, but maybe...
Read moreIt is a very small location and not many people sat and ate while we were there. There were many take outs though.
We tried the Albap and the Marketplace gukbap. I can't find albap anywhere so this is a nice change. I love Albap and they did it very well especially with the side sauce they give you. The gukbap didn't have much flavor as usual, but it is very packed with stuff in it.
Oh and they serve hot broth instead of tea.
I am a little disappointed I didn't try the kimbap. Their kimbap prices are cheap and they look big. I think they are most famous for that, given that their name is Kimbap heaven.
They serve things that aren't your usual Vancouver Korean restaurant style stuff, which I find is nice because sometimes I am sick of the usual.
-edit May 2023- This time we tried the ramen nengmyeon. The ramen was so expensive for what it is. Other places have egg, fish cake etc in the ramen but this one didnt really have anything but the instant noodles. The nengmyeon was just ok. There are better ones out there for...
Read moreThis is the WORST Korean food I ever had in my life!!! We ordered "jang te kook bab" which seemed like putting all ingredients together (rice/bean sprouts/chinese mushroom/zucchini/some meat/spices) and simply mixing it with hot water. It tasted plain, the spice was simply hot and got no taste to it. This is nothing Korean!!! It doesn't even taste good!!! There was also the "kim bab", but simply bad, the rice had too much oil in it. We will NEVER visit again.
We've been to many Korean restaurants: Busan Daeji Gukbap, Bbong Korean Restaurant, Wang Ga Ma, Jong Ga Korean Restaurant, House of Tofu Soup, Mal Li Jang Sung Korean, Nam San Korean Cuisine, Chui Hong, Seoul Grill House, SURA Korean BBQ, all of which come with nice appetizers, the Korean hot sauces on the side taste awesome and even heats up your body (perfect during winter times). The stone bowl rice are awesome, the noodle soup are awesome, the intestines are awesome, the jajangmyeon is awesome, cooking meat on the grill is...
