Literally, it has been more than 9 months since I have had Kokoro Mazesoba. And when I heard that this branch opened up in Burnaby, I had to drop by with a couple of my close friends. At the same time, this branch opened up during the pandemic. I felt extremely sorry for them, but OMG, this branch didn't falter my expectations at all.
I needed to feel that slurping sensation again of the flavourful noodles going through my food gullet gate and have that chewy noodle elastically bounce with my teeth. I WAS LIVING AGAIN. On top of that, when I came I think I had a month without seeing my friends... So this hang out with my friends was needed.
When we arrived, it was kind of a "lunch period" a little bit after 1:00pm, and it wasn't as busy as we thought. Yes, we are here during a pandemic, and we could have ordered and gone home, but really, North Road really lacks a public park for people to hang out. It has become a street with just huge traffic of cars going up and down it everyday.
I ordered the Mentaiko Cream, which is ALWAYS been my favourite one of all their noodle bowls. I loved the feeling of mixing all the ingredients together within the large bowl and then the noodles being covered with the whole egg yolk and then the creamy salmon roe just being within each bite of the noodles. Just coating every single strand with beauty heavy sauce. The first bite brought me to a part of my body where I have never been for what felt like an eternity. I was in a heavenly bliss.
We ordered a Hokkaido Ice cream cone after that, as usual, and they ran out of the cone version, so we just got the cup one instead. But, seriously going back the feeling of that first time eating at Kokoro Mazesoba is hitting me again.
I will be coming to this one since it will be closer to me and my friends!! Will...
Read moreCame here for dinner as I was meeting up with my family after my work and heard good things about this restaurant as they have Mazesoba (umami-rich saucy noodle) and you have an option to make your bowl XL at no extra charge. Also when you finish your bowl of noodles and have sauce leftover then you can request rice to mix it together to finish your meal. It's not obvious on their pad as you need to press the "pay bill" option to find the option to request rice.
The inside of the restaurant was very spacious and had nice decor. Street parking may be a hassle if you were to go during times when it is restricted (e.g. no parking) but I would suggest parking by Lougheed mall and walking to the restaurant as it is not too far.
I ordered the Deluxe (chef special) Mazesoba that had a lot of toppings like Slow-braised Pork Chasu, Minced Meat (Pork & Beef), Runny Egg and Soft Boiled Egg. There was a unique taste as they had Grinded Saba Fish and it added to the umami flavour.
My wife ordered the Szechuan Mala Ramen as she likes spicy food and she said it wasn't as spicy as she only choose a 1 so next time she will request a higher number but overall the ramen was very tasty and filling. My kid ordered the Carbonara as he likes creamy sauce and it had similar toppings and he said it was very delicious as it reminded him of pasta.
Typically we don't order dessert but we needed to try their Hokkaido Creme Cone as it reminded us of Japan. It was very creamy, not too sweet and smooth. Wow love this ice cream.
We will definitely be back another time to try their...
Read moreA solid 4 start for this Ramen chain from Tokyo Japan!
Famous for their Mazesoba ( dry mix ramen ) brothless ramen, they also cook up awesome ramen with your choice of chicken or pork bone broth ... the chain gain popularity very fast in the lower Mainland, with locations in Vancouver downtown, UBC & Coquitlam.
Highlights ... Szechuan Ramen - Seasonal Limited You can choose from a lighter Chicken Broth or a creamier Pork Bone Broth, on my two occasions I tried both and they were equally great! I really like the texture of their Ramen noodles which is of the thinner variety, more like the Cantonese style noodles, it still has a bite when it is presented to you, my suggestion is to enjoy the noodles first and savour the topping after with the broth!
Pork & Veggie Gyoza Juicy & flavourful, it is more to the Shanghai style where the wrappings are a tiny bit thicker then the normal Japanese style. Still, it presents more texture when you bite into it! The bottom is pan fried till crispy & golden brown! Dip it in the house made gyoza sauce or I prefer to use their own Vinegar mix with pepper flakes to give it an extra kick!
Decor & service both outstanding, as it presents a clean & modern atmosphere!
I am glad to see the more famous ramen shops willing to expanding into the "suburbs" and not only limited to the "ramen row" in downtown...
