Crown & Moose — Restaurant in Corner Brook

We dined here on a Saturday night as a party of four. It was fairly busy when we arrived, so we anticipated a bit of a wait. The waitress did warn us there would be a bit of a wait as there was only one person in the kitchen. We did not, however, anticipate a wait of over 2 hours.

We were hungry when we arrived around 7:00. We waited because we enjoyed eachother's company and felt bad for the staff. We spent the last hour of the wait feeling like the food HAD to be coming out any minute. Sunk cost fallacy I guess? By the end of it we were starving.

The food for the most part was fine. Nothing more nothing less. Two of us had the chicken burger and they were pretty good if not a little messy. One of us had the pan fried cod and was sorely disappointed. The vegetables were cold and mushy. The piece of cod itself was tiny (was tasty, but much too small to justify the price). It wouldn't have been so bad if not for the 2+ hour wait for it.

I want to clarify that I don't believe this is the fault of the staff. Our waitress was very kind and apologetic. She let us know there was only one person in the kitchen to handle everything on a Saturday night. We were sympathetic, we've all worked jobs understaffed. We get it. It's tough. By the end of the night we were the only table left, and were still waiting. Had the restaurant kitchen been fully staffed on a busy Saturday night, we likely would not have had this experience.

We were offered no comps for our long wait. No dessert, drinks, nothing. We paid full price for everything. I even tipped the waitress because she was apologetic and I felt bad for her.

I won't be back, I don't think any of my party will either. But I do implore management to please do better by your staff. Having one person run a whole kitchen on a Saturday night is setting them up to fail. No one could keep up with...

Wow. Horribly slow service.

First we stood around for 15 min waiting to be seated. Many people passed us, no one even said “someone will be right with you”. Then we were finally seated, at a dirty table! A waitress was walking towards us so I said hello. Turns out she was headed to the table behind us, and didn’t say a single word. We waited another 15 min at the table and not a single person came to say hello, didn’t even get our waters, and the table remained dirty. So we got up and left. Big surprise here, no one noticed anything on our way out either.

We had a really bad experience in this restaurant last night. But our waitress Emily made it much better. She was very apologetic and thoughtful. We were approached, very aggressively by the manager because he thought we sat ourselves but we did what the sign said, and waited until we were seated. Even though we told the manager that we were seated by the waitress, he never apologized for his behavior and we believe he told the cook to wait to prepare our order. It took an hour to be served a steak, that was way over cooked. The waitress, Emily was a doll and didn't charge us for the steak even though they prepared a new one. She must have felt terrible about the way we were treated by...
