My first reaction was "Where's the rest..?"
I used to not mind paying a little extra to get Habaneros as the portions were always so big. Enough that they would touch the top of the lid!
The portion sizes are comically small now. I had the saddest large burrito bowl today. The pictures don't do it justice. It didn't come close to filling the container. I could see the bottom of my container THROUGH my rice when I moved my toppings.
I understand weighing out the meat and cheese as those are expensive components. The rice is what fluffs up a menu item, so why be stingy? Even with the toppings like onions and carrots. These are all cheap "superstar" menu items. Meaning, they cost little and return big.
When I called to ask what happened the poor guy on the phone said their boss was cracking down on portion sizes. I understand it's not his fault and he's just doing his job and he was super understanding about it. I figure I'm not the first one to complain.
The amount of food in my burrito bowl could have easily fit in a small container.
That being said, I'm not returning. It's just too expensive for the amount of food you get. There are plenty of better burritos in the city that cost the same or less and are better quality for...
Read moreWe got two burritos and they were quite good, but unfortunately the service was very poor. Walked in and there was a girl and her partner already waiting in line. We all waited for another few minutes as a line formed, waited a bit more and finally someone started to come out. They gave mediocre service at best; they didn't seem like they wanted to be there. I was served first after the couple in front of us and was separated from my partner. I got to cash before all of them and was charged for my burrito, my partners burrito, and then three tacos when I told the girl at cash that it was just the two burritos. They tried to refund but the register crashed and they ended up just giving us cash from the register and said they would deal with it later. We really want to like this place but we have only had one guy over at cheese curds that constantly gives spectacular service to everyone. Unfortunately the rest of the staff don't seem to care enough to make a good experience for the customer. If the food wasn't as good as it is, we wouldn't...
Read moreBeen to most of the Habaneros locations in Halifax over the last several years and some days I really like it, other times find it just 'so so' but overall much better than not. Today I specifically am only going to mention their 2019 #taco week item: the 'extreme cheesy BBQ chicken' taco (2 for $10 'chef inspired bbq chicken, melted cheese between a hard and soft taco shell, lettuce, pico de gallo, cilantro, chipotle sour cream). It was only my 2nd taco of the week, but must comment that it hit the spot in flavor and texture. Simple, yet the bbq sauce was just right for a teensy bit of spice, not too messy, juicy, etc. I will assume this is not a regular on their menu, but it should be! Also, very friendly dude working when I arrived at about 4:30 last night who seemed happy to be there. The place was empty literally so I ate in and left...
