We were very fond of Moxies Dartmouth... keyword "were"
After not having pleasant experiences in the Halifax Branch, we tried the Dartmouth branch, the first time a few weeks ago, server was amazing, she was so upbeat and attentive! My husband and I thought for sure it would be our go-to whenever we're in dartmouth - that is, until the last time, on July 21st, we arrived at about maybe 7-30 -7:45.
It took a good 10 minutes or so for our server to come by and take our drink /appetizer orders.. it appeared she was the only server on the floor, which when we arrived was not busy, with maybe a few tables.. nonetheless we gave benefit of the doubt at the start as she was the only one on the floor with the manager bringing the apps.
When the food arrived, she never came back to check on us, she never offered pop refills nor water refills. We had to ask her as she was passing by, each time. We ordered dessert, which we never got to enjoy at the table as it took more than 15 minutes to get to us. We had to ask another employee cleaning tables if the dessert would be ready soon and if so, to bag it up as we cant stay any longer, or we'd have to cancel it. At this point there may have been 1 table besides us in the whole restaurant or just us left, I can't remember.
It was frustrating seeing many tables with more guests per table that came after us, leave before us, - we were there for far too long, approx 9:30. With a toddler and a baby becoming fussy, Our server arrives later on with our bill we'd asked for long before that, and I ask about the dessert - to which she responds it'll be a few minutes more and that it's being packed up. My husband pays the bill, our server says nothing. No "thank you for coming in today. Have a good day" Just nothing. She offers no apology about the wait or very slow service.
We leave to put our children in the car as they are getting cranky, and our server brings the dessert out. We thanked her and all she said was "no problem "
Service and how we are treated while dining out is very important to me, just as important as the food quality as I am coming from a background in the food industry as well, and I have served my fair share of patrons and know how to give exceptional, attentive service. The food is good, the service is turtle-slow, inattentive, and unkind. My husband and I eat out quite a lot, and are disappointed that we do not feel welcome dining at...
Read moreWe chose Moxie's because of the location in Dartmouth Crossing close to where we were shopping, past experience, great parking. The restaurant has a classy, dark vibe with modern features. The booth was comfortable for plus size people and we had lots of privacy. The restaurant was loud though not full, just lots of dishes clanging and dishes dropped on one occasion. Our server was brand new. She did a great job; polite, friendly, knew the menu well, checked in with us frequently but not too much, and helped me look for missing keys. The water was good for Halifax; I'm not sure if it's filtered. Our meals were quite good but definitely higher in price for quantity. The food presentation was very nice, taste was delicious and the meals sat just right with us (no stuffed bellies). I ordered the cashew chicken lettuce wraps from the appetizer menu and they were a meal on there own. My daughter ordered the mango chicken from the main dinner menu and found it small for the price. The summer menu offers lots of flavors, and we were glad we ordered the cashew dip as an appetizer or we would have still felt hungry. Overall, a very positive experience and I...
Read moreI haven't been to Moxie's in years; we were brought in as we were given a gift card. Aside from the slow wait times and seemingly long delays between when the server would come back to us, we actually enjoyed our time at Moxie's. We ordered the table-side smashed guacamole, which was delicious (ask for extra chips to finish it!)! I love guacamole and theirs is no exception to a great choice. I had their fish tacos and sweet potato fries and my spouse had their chicken tenders with the tangy sauce and fries. He mentioned that their sauce was very spicy, and not labeled as such so be careful about that. My fish tacos were good, not the best I've had in the city though. The sweet potato fries on the other hand, are fantastic! I'd get them as an appetizer if we ever end up there again! The restaurant and bathroom seemed cleaned and well kept. Though in our groups opinion, their choice of music (every genre you can imagine) didn't seem to go with the vibes of the restaurant. Our server...
