I’ve eaten here twice now. Take out both times. Your order is made very quickly. I would avoid ordering the sides. They’re so small it’s almost laughable! The 4 piece crispy chicken dumplings were so tiny and just clumped into 1 piece and far from crispy, for $7+ tax. Also tried the Sweet Bao Buns (fried dough) for dessert. Another hard pass. It’s so over fried and just soaked in oil. Wasn’t soft, it was hard and crispy. Ordered a couple of the soy ginger eggs on the side and they were just plain hard boiled eggs in 2 plastic containers. No flavour, no color, no sauce, nothing. Why are they called soy ginger eggs? First trip I got the Beef Bulgogi with udon and I have no complaints. It was great. The next time I ordered some assorted dishes from their menu but here’s the thing. Every one of them all tasted the same. They’re all pretty much just noodles with meat and sauce no matter which one u choose. Between the Beef Bulgogi, Mongolian Beef, Singapore Cashew Noodle, Szechwan chicken, etc. None really had any different taste. Also tried the Vietnamese Beef Pho. No one told me which bag the pho was in, nor that the lids don’t close securely on the bowls. So as I was walking to my car I poured half of the hot broth all over myself! Then it almost fell out of the bag because it soaked through. Would be nice to know these things when picking up. After that fiasco I must say it was rather enjoyable. I got the hoisin and the sriracha sauces, they give bean sprouts on the side as well, and a slice of lime. Oh and please invest in some new, better limes for garnish. I had a slice in every box, plus my pho and none of them had a drop of juice in them. They were dry as a popcorn fart! Disappointing cause I love lime!I better wrap this up before it becomes a book. Overall meh. But I would go back for...
Read moreMy daughter, her son and myself were in Halifax for a hospital appt for my grandson a couple of days ago. I had been craving Wor Wonton soup since I was introduced to it at the Toronto airport last year. Wok Box was right across from my gate and I had a bit of a wait for my flight so I was reading their menu and decided to try the Wor Wonton soup instead of just the regular soup. I had made it myself several times since then. But when I saw a Wok Box was near I was so excited to go and order my soup. I actually ordered two bowls since my drive was a 4 1/2 hour drive home. When I did get home I wasted no time in heating it back up and my first taste was absolutely terrible. All I could taste was garlic and lime. I don't know if the worker used the wrong soup stock or what it was but I could not eat it. It was a very sour flavour. I can't tell u how disappointed I felt. So now I guess I will have to make it again from the recipe from the Toronto airport Wok Box. Now having said all this, their spring rolls and dumplings were...
Read moreI would have loved to eat here but their debit machine doesn’t have tap? In 2023 that’s kind of a deal breaker, I never have my cards anymore let alone cash.
A piece of paper and tape is slapped on the debit machine indicating they do not have tap. Not “tap is broken” but “no tap” 🤨
I’m pretty familiar with debit/pos/cc machines and their systems having worked in the industry for years, and the model they had is only a couple years old. It absolutely CAN take tap, that function has just been disabled or locked out, which is kinda sus. Two star is MORE than fair until that changes and I have a chance to eat here!
Aside from that the menu looks pretty good for a small chain, and the restaurant appears to be clean inside.
It is a small chain operation though, and like most chains from what I could see into the kitchen 95% of products are premade and dishes are just assembled in the wok. Nothing explicitly wrong with that if that’s what you like, but...
