Relaxing, chill jazz Christmas music playing quietly in the background with a tastefully decorated space celebrating Christmas was my visual greeting. A waft of warm air enveloped me as I entered on a cold winter day with the aroma of baked goods and coffee. An instant cozy, welcoming feeling surrounded me. I was taken by surprise by this place. This is the kind of place you could expect to find in a city; definitely not in a small northern town such as Dawson Creek. I ordered a Cappuccino. To my delight, they invited me to sit in a clean, soft, cozy, leather sofa and relax while I waited for them to serve my coffee to me. No standing in a hurried line off to the side waiting for my order. I could relax as I waited for it to be brought to me. A very nice personal touch. Warm greetings with ready smiles from staff were all part of the nice experience. The lighting is soft, warm and welcoming. The floor was also designed with care. Concrete with acid etching in warm chocolate marbled brown hues. My coffee presentation was done with care. The froth was done perfectly. The taste superb. Beats any other coffee shop in town and even many in a big city. This place encourages patrons to stay and relax. They have a surprising menu selection as well, serving hot breakfast and lunch items.

Off the beaten path, tucked in a non-descript building in a quiet neighborhood is Beans&Barley, a quaint cafe with the charm of a mountain chalet. Comfy couches and picnic tables along with a corrugated ceiling just add to its allure. Then there's the coffee and food!! Being an old Montreal guy, I have an affinity for good oatmeal (porridge when I was growing up) and B&B's slow baked oatmeal is on another level! Wow..big comforting flavors of cinnamon and nutmeg along with perfectly cooked, el dente oats. If that wasn't enough I decided to try the scone breakfast sandwich and another homerun! Fluffy, light homemade scone filled with perfectly cooked eggs, ham and gooey cheese.. My Americano coffee was rich and flavorful without being bitter and served in THE RIGHT MUG that kept it warm for longer than 5 minutes..oh thank the gods!! I wish they were close to home, I'd be here every day. Well done

Edit: Driving back through. Stopped here again. Had the egg bites with salsa, and they were great, so I'm adding a star to my food review. :) Latte and service and atmosphere and art? Stellar on all counts. Thoughtful touch: fun toy to entertain small children. Also, both times I noticed this is clearly a place where locals gather. Original review: Breakfast panini was okay. Coffee was good. Great atmosphere, friendly staff. Fast wifi. Large selection of food and drink items. Lovely art inside.

Entering this cafe, you leave your stress behind. It has it all for comfortable seating, nice music, great coffee, variety of drinks & food. With all ages in mind, this owner(s) created an atmosphere for relaxation. Simulated golf for keeping up with your game and an invitation for children to hang out with their adults as they have provided a couple quiet games to play. Really great to have this type of business in Dawson Cr. as it has been much needed especially during the sometimes "downer"...
