Lots of strong opinions on the ordering kiosks! I would agree that it’s not perfect, but I would never have imagined it’s giving people so much trouble that it ruins their whole experience. I think it’s easier to work through a menu this large on a kiosk than having to order with a cashier. The main issue with the kiosk interface is that with some items, you click and view a description before adding to your cart, and some items without a description are added to the cart with the first click, and there's no way to predict which will happen, so you may end up accidentally adding things to the cart when you just wanted to see more details. However, it's very easy to just remove anything unwanted on the "Finalize Order" screen, so this is a pretty small inconvenience. The only significant problem with the menu is not inherent to the kiosk interface: it's that some items are missing a description or the description given doesn't provide the full information as to what's included (I wanted to know the difference between 3 similar items, but only one had a description, and I also ordered an extra chutney when prompted, not realizing pudina chutney was already included with what I ordered). Now that I've addressed the kiosks, I can say I was happy with the food and overall experience at Happy Singh. The extensive menu may seem overwhelming, but there is something here to satisfy any craving. I would suggest browsing the online order menu ahead of time to get an idea of what you want and save time browsing in store. I ended up getting the soya chaap frankie, malai pista tres leches cake slice, and masala chai doodh soda. Everything was pretty good. Soya chaap frankie: Nothing out of the ordinary, but the filling was flavourful and had lots of substance, and the wrap was perfectly crispy. The included pudina chutney was strong and the small cup held exactly enough. Malai pista tres leches cake: I wasn't expecting too much from the desserts but this was very impressive and decadent. In addition to the usual milk soak and whipped cream, it was topped with a drizzle of pistachio paste and a whole rasmalai patty! Rather than being too busy, I thought all the elements of the cake went together very well, creating an amazing and unique dessert! Masala chai doodh soda: Was expecting that it might be super sweet, but the sweetness level was just moderate, which I liked. The chai syrup used was moderate in strength but had an authentic flavour. I've never tried something like this before, it was very refreshing. Food is prepared at different stations and picked up separately from each. When you order, the machine gives you separate receipts for each station so that you know where to go for each part of the order. The orders at each station are displayed on screens that can be viewed from the tables and you can also opt to have a text sent to your phone that lets you know when your complete order is ready. Despite it being cafeteria-style service, the staff was very friendly and helpful. Ambiance is also pretty nice for a cafeteria; it has a modern Indian aesthetics and a cool...
Read moreHeard SO much about this place for the last six months or so from friends and family so decided to check it out.
We were a party of 5 adults and one child.
Seating and ambience was very nice and modern. Walked in and asked someone for a table and they were very polite and kind, gave us a table almost immediately..
Took a while to order from their kiosk, which is what you HAVE to use to order. There are only 2 kiosks and for the volume and number of people, there is always a wait to get to the kiosk
Trying to order was an ordeal. You can choose an item but it doesn’t add to the cart immediately - you HAVE to go thru their ‘forced’ options, say NO, and then hit ‘maybe next time option’ and THEN you can hit ‘add to cart’… SUPER ANNOYING and unnecessarily time consuming - not customer friendly at all..
Ordered Channa Bhatura, Golgappas, Dosa, Chili Chicken Frankie, Paneer Kulcha, Dahi Bada, Lassi and Mango Mojito.
You get a number printed on your receipt and it tells you to go to ‘south’ station except ‘south’ station isn’t listed or marked anywhere so you end up asking people behind the counter where to pickup your food
The screen shows the numbers being prepared and the ones ready for pickup..
The Lassi and Mojito were on point and the lady who prepared them was very kind..
This places makes the same mistake like every other place when it comes to Chana Bhatura i.e. the Bhaturas are good sized but the Cholley/Chanaas you get are in the smallest quantity possible so you’re expected to eat two good sized bhaturaas with a serving of chholley/chanaas that is barely two serving spoonfuls… very disappointing..
The dosa was ok, nothing too great
The golgapaas were decent but we ran out of golgappa water half way thru the number of golgappas served - disappointing again..
The Paneer Kulcha was made well and served with condiments, tasted good with butter..
The Dahi-Bhallaas were dry and not submerged in dahi, like they should be. The inside should ideally dissolve as soon as you put it in your mouth but they were disappointingly dry and tasteless..
The Chili Chicken Frankie was decent, tasted good… and came with hot sauce and chutneys…
They have these green chillies which are fried or pickled - to me THAT was the BEST item on the menu aside from the drinks we ordered
This place has HUNDREDS of items and has a modern look and ambience and yet the service is impersonal like that of a cafeteria where you pick up your food and then get rid of trays and refuse…
Instead of quantity of items, maybe they could do with more focus on TASTE and QUALITY of them i.e. do a few things but do them SUPER WELL..
Will try to come here again and order other items to see if the experience is any better..
This place has TREMENDOUS potential if they add a little more TLC to...
Read moreDuring a visit today to Happy Singh Indian Street Food, I had the opportunity to try their highly popular Amritsari Kulcha with Chole, Here's a detailed breakdown of my experience at this vibrant spot.
Ambiance and Ordering Experience: The place is huge and beautifully decorated, creating a pleasant and lively atmosphere. However, despite the spaciousness, it wasn’t very busy at the time of my visit. The restaurant employs a kiosk system for ordering, which, while modern, was a bit confusing for a first-timer like myself. This setup seems to be in place to address short staffing issues, but it slightly detracted from the overall dining experience as I found it less personal and not very intuitive.
Staff and Service: The staff seemed okay but not particularly friendly. They were efficient, but there wasn’t much in the way of warm customer service. However, the food came out quickly and piping hot, which is always appreciated, especially when you’re hungry.
Food Quality: Now, onto the food itself. The Amritsari Kulcha was huge, fresh, and absolutely delicious. It had that perfect balance of crispiness on the outside and softness on the inside, with a well-seasoned stuffing that made it the star of the meal. Unfortunately, the accompanying chole (chickpea curry) didn’t quite live up to the kulcha's standard. There wasn’t enough chole to complement even half of the kulcha, which was a bit disappointing. Moreover, the chole lacked the depth of flavor that I was expecting from such a popular dish. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t as flavorful as I had hoped, especially given the high praise for this dish.
Price Point: Another point worth mentioning is the price. For what is considered their most popular dish, I found it a bit too pricey, especially considering the small portion of chole. While the kulcha was definitely worth the price, the chole portion could have been more generous to make the meal feel more balanced and satisfying.
Final Thoughts: Despite the small portion size of the choleand the somewhat confusing ordering system, I would definitely go back to Happy Singh to try some of their other offerings. The kulcha alone was worth the trip, and I’m hopeful that other items on the menu will have the flavor and portion balance that I’m looking for.
In conclusion, Happy Singh offers a unique street food experience with great ambiance and delicious kulchas, though there’s some room for improvement in terms of flavor balance and portion size for certain dishes. I’m looking forward to trying something else on...
