When I went in today in the morning for my regular cup of coffee after so long, I was glad that there were proper precautions in place to combat the spread of COVID-19. Excited, I sanitized my hands and wore the pair of gloves that were provided by the store. After making my cup, I proceeded to pay but I noticed that my lid was dirty. There were dust particles and/or white deposit on the lid. I don't know what it was, and as everyone is extra cautious during this unprecendented time, I decided to open the lid to see whether my coffee had been contaminated or not. Unfortunately, it was. As a result, I decided to throw it and leave to get a cup of coffee elsewhere. Now, at this time the extremely curt, callous and rude employee shouts on top of her vpice and informs me that I have to pay for the cup of coffee that I just threw. She also violently lets me know that it is a company policy. Understandably so, I apologized twice. But, I was not going to pay for something that is not my fault. Being the rude emplpyee that she is, she refused to understand my explanation and deemed it as invalid. She engaged in verbal agression and argued that all of the lids and cups were clean, implying that I was lying. In her exact words, 'You should have seen the filth before using the lid and should have picked another lid to avoid wastage. To which, I apologized again because to err is human and accepting one's mistakes does not make one inferior to the other. It could have been that only one lid was not clean amongst the many others. In no way, was I alluding to the fact that it may have been her fault. It could have been some other customer's fault, other employee's or even nobody's fault. But not necassarily hers or mine. However, she did not let up and relentlessly/vehemenlty argued. Again, I amg to pay for a filthy cup of coffee. Having been fed up of her insolence and incompetence, I left the store. Now, this is not the first time I have seen her argue intensly with a customer, no matter who is at fault. I am not sure why the managment is not keeping in check with the employees on their unethical behaviour with customers. But this won't be the last time that they would receive a complaint...
