It's hard to tell where to begin when it comes to my experience at Pizza One Muskoka, but let's just say "It was not my intention to end up eating pizza in Gravenhurst".
When searching up "Where to eat in Gravenhurst?", I read off some of the places we could go. "Pizza one" was mentioned and to our surprise, right beside us was the little pizza joint. In times like these, you just have to try it. Whether you believe in fate or not, this type of coincidence doesn't present itself very often. Although there was a Pizza Hut in view, the chance to try Pizza One doesn't pop up everyday so we decided to give it a try.
Before we stepped out of the car, I turned to my friend and said "This is either going to be the best pizza of our lives or the worst" and ladies and gentlemen, my statement was partially true.
As we walked up to Muskoka's finest, in big bold lettering on the side it read "Organic Stone Baked Pizza". Now I'm not scientist, but I'm fairly certain that pizza's don't grow on trees. If they had somehow pulled this amazing feat off, I would've been very impressed but I'm sad to say that is not the case.
The inside was tiny. A little kitchen and a couple of chairs for seating, nothing special. I was taken aback by the staffs decision to not use masks during the middle of a raging pandemic, but we had already committed to Pizza One and there was no turning back now. Aside from the lack of masks, the two staff were quite friendly. We weren't in the mood to wait for a whole pizza so instead we decided to take that last of their slices. Twelve dollars isn't a ridiculous price for three slices of pizza. With that being said, that price tag does raise my expectations of what I am about to be eating.
The pizza was not very good. I don't want to be too harsh and I understand that they were slices instead of a fresh pizza so I did take that into account when giving it a rating. That being said, if it's your life work to produce the best pizza of your ability and it still doesn't rival Pizza Pizza, it's hard for me to justify going back.
Looking back on the experience as a whole, I'm glad we chose to go to Pizza One instead of the Pizza Hut across the street. Not because the pizza was any good or the service was incredible, but rather because of what it could've been. The possibility that Pizza One was going to be the best pizza ever was low, very low. Knowing that going in, I wasn't shocked with the outcome, but deep down I was a little disappointed. Will I be going back again? No. Will I continue to try local places? Yes. So if you're looking for a change in your life and you don't mind eating some 3 out of 10 pizza this is the...
Read moreLast week I visited with my girlfriend & sister to order takeout and there was a line up. What put me off was no attempt from the owner for social distancing and no sanitizers or covid symbols on the property. When it came to ordering, none of them were wearing masks. Well, that is very common for these anti-maskers as everyone has noted this in their reviews. Secondly, it is pricey to charge a dollar for the dip especially when you do not offer seasoning (like oregano, pepper or chilli flakes), fork/knife or decent plates & napkins. You do not want to offer anything that a normal pizzeria does but still you want to charge extra for everything. Seriously?? Further, he gives us the machine with tip options 15% & 20% and says select one. Lol.. You are in a way asking tip on a takeway where you act rude with your customers, do not provide basic stuff & charge a dollar for two spoons of dip. And btw people would definitely tip if they want to. You shouldn’t be the one asking for it. Finally, when we didn’t tip due to the terrible experience we were having by then (I wish we walked out & went to Pizza Hut across the street) - the guy makes an obscene comment (just because we didn’t tip). And as expected, the pizza turned out to be a mess with chewy dough & mediocre toppings.
Attached is the screenshot of my credit card transaction so that the owner doesn’t reply saying this is a fake review like he did with other reviews just to save himself. You cannot get away with the poor way you manage this property & treat your customers. Learn to...
Read moreAh, Pizza One in Gravenhurst—where my appetite met its match and my willpower was promptly sidelined by carbs and cheese.
I strolled in, lured by the promise of good pizza and that unbeatable small-town Muskoka charm. The atmosphere? Cozy and inviting, like the kind of place where the locals know you by name and can predict your order before you’ve even decided (spooky, right?).
I decided to switch things up and went with the Chicken Bruschetta Pizza and Cheese Burger Pizza—because why choose between two when you can have both? First up, the Chicken Bruschetta Pizza. It was like the pizza version of a well-dressed dinner party guest—classy, flavorful, and probably more cultured than me. The grilled chicken was tender, the tomatoes fresh and juicy, and the balsamic drizzle? Chef’s kiss.
Next, the Cheese Burger Pizza. I mean, who knew two of the greatest food inventions could team up like this? Every bite was a delightful reminder that sometimes, you don’t have to choose between pizza and a burger—you can just have it all. The ground beef, pickles, and melted cheese all came together like a flavor-packed, cheesy fist bump.
The staff were friendly and quick with a smile, and the service was just the right balance of “we’ve got this” and “take your time to bask in your food coma.”
Bottom line? If you’re in Gravenhurst and craving pizza that will make you question every other pizza you’ve had before, Pizza One is the place. Just make sure to save room for that food coma nap afterward—you’re...
