The night before this review I went as I would often for a burger in the drive through. When I was halfway through eating my burger I noticed a small piece of something hard to chew through. When I inspected closer the burger patty had the small burnt pieces off of a dirty grill scattered all over it. Disgusting. I immediately spat out and threw the rest of the burger out and prayed that I would not get very sick the next day.
Of course the next day I didn’t feel too well.
On the way home the next night I stopped at a&w to let them know about my experience only to pull into the drive through with kids standing in and blocking the drive through. That’s odd. Restaurants don’t take walkthrough traffic orders for safety reasons. I waited and waited and waited and waited. 10-15 minutes must’ve passed by and I was finally in the initial area where you would place your order and now the kids had moved to the main pick up window at the drive through. I placed a order and requested it to be made fresh and decided to share about my previous nights poor experience when I got to the window with the staff directly.
Behind me pulled up a vehicle (looked like a taxi with a passenger in it) and started yelling loudly at the workers and the kids from its window. “This is a drive through”. He shouted and became more angry and irate. At one point he even yelled at me to move forward and I refused keeping my distance for safety reasons for the benefit of the kids. Even though the parents of these kids don’t care much about them to let them be unsupervised past midnight roaming the city, some of us were still raised with basic critical thinking and logic.
It’s a good thing I didn’t move because the guy behind me got out looking extremely irate starting to charge towards the kids and had his hands on the side of his jacket what looked like potentially a knife or a weapon and I yelled from my window get out of here or I’ll contact the RCMP. This was thankfully enough to have him come to his senses, walk away from the situation and drive away.
Those kids likely drunk and high didn’t even know or care to know they were just seconds away from finding themselves in the middle of a really really bad situation. You hear of random stabbings these days all the time in the headlines. Again these kids parents are really examples of poor parenting.
Phew, that was a lot of responsibility. You’d think a&w staff would take care of their patrons as a business but … that thing called common sense and caring was definitely not displayed there tonight.
Another 10-15 minutes passed by and finally the kids cleared the window after getting their food standing in the drive through. I pulled up and I shared my concern about the burger the previous night politely. The regular response would be “sorry about that and sorry about making you wait for your food, here is the meal on us tonight”. Instead I was told “You need to pay, you need to pay” 20+ years of eating locally at this a&w wasn’t worth replacing a meal I had to throw out for food safety concerns the previous night, on top of a half hour wait and on top of being a well known regular.
Well I paid for my meal, got the receipt and went home, threw the whole meal out (it was cold and soggy from sitting all that time they were serving the kids at the drive through.) That’s now 2 bad meals in a row, plus all the other substandard ones I’ve had lately.
The sad part of this is the a&w head office is literally a 5 minute drive away. I guess when management closes their eyes to the problems than the franchise owner is left to do as pleases. As long as the dollars roll in they could care less about the community and they don’t seem to understand what connection food and the human body have in common. The basic human needs are still FOOD, shelter and clothing right ? Hmmm.
I am done. The a&w story ends here for me. I can get a coffee and protein bar at the gas station, save myself the money, the time and avoid a expensive bad meal, avoid feeling sick after....

Because massive billboard says 2 burgers 5 buck.Got to window and was told this is only a happy hour price from 2-5pm
It's true when I went back to look at the sign again to be clear. I do however believe we are all aware of A&w burger promotions that we have become accustomed to.
Two for x amount of dollars is the norm. At least in the past we have seen this deals on TV advertising also.
I believe this is a blatent attempt to draw customers and then explain this isn't the deal that was being offered. It's a bit shady. We are already in line up!
When I told the window operation person she listened to what I had to say, much appreciated, and informed me it was the *only a&w doing that.
I'm guessing these are all franchised and not a corporate store. Corporate should be made aware my experience was hindered today & not what I'm accustomed to.
The billboard would be better represented as Happy Hour deal 2-5pm two burgers for 5$. **This location only perhaps.
My bill today for a mozza combo was tripple of what i had expected to pay when compared to feelong Lured in by $5 promo for two burgers. You descide
I wont be back for a while. I don't like...

Ordered a jr chubby chicken meal, and a bacon n egger combo using a coupon. When we left we saw no hashbrown and my breakfast sandwich was on an english muffin but I asked for a bun. Drove back & Waited in the drive thru for 10 minutes. I mentioned my hashbrown was missing and the woman in the drive-thru printed our receipt out and said she didn’t charge me for a hashbrown. I used a bacon n egger combo coupon and showed her, asking how that was possible. After more back n forth she said she would make a new sandwich and give me a hashbrown. I asked if the whole meal could be remade as the other half was cold by now. The poutine in the chicken sandwich combo was soggy beyond repair. She said “they dont do that”. I was confused, so I asked again and she refused. I got a refund and went to a different location.
