We were excited to try this place for breakfast and had made a reservation online for 2 at 9am. Upon arrival, a gentleman server greeted us and sat us at the first table by the windows behind the reception. About two minutes later, a lady server approached us and very rudely told us that we were sitting at the wrong table, accusing us of taking a reserved spot on our own.
We were shocked by her tone and how we were being spoken to, as we had simply followed instructions from the staff. I explained that we had a reservation and were seated by their own server, but she simply repeated, “this is not your table,” with no apology or effort to understand. Eventually, we were told that this specific table was reserved for a regular guest who comes in every day at 9am.
We understand that human errors happen—especially when there’s a new team member—and we would’ve had no problem moving if the situation had been handled respectfully. Unfortunately, the way we were approached and accused was completely unprofessional and left a poor first impression.
As for the food, it was okay—what you’d expect from a standard full English breakfast. The portion size was generous; I couldn’t finish mine. However, our coffee had a tiny hair in it, so we didn’t end up drinking it.
To be fair, the rest of the staff were lovely. The gentleman who took our order checked in to make sure everything was okay and even apologised to us on behalf of the first server. The same server who initially seated us came by to offer more coffee, and another lady who brought out our food even gave us an extra plate for sharing without us asking.
The first lady server, however, never returned to our table after the incident—not even to acknowledge what happened, which we found disappointing. Given the food was just okay, and considering the unprofessionalism and unpleasant start to our experience, we are unlikely to return. We hope the team can receive better training in handling guests professionally and consistently, regardless of whether they’re regulars or...
Read moreLast night we ordered take out from Medley’s Grill for the first time.
We live not too far away and not to long ago, when I was surfing the net for somewhere new to try, I spotted the Turkey dinner on their menu. We were really hoping our meal would be good as my wife and I occasionally get a craving for Turkey.
We weren’t disappointed! Our dinner was excellent. The Turkey was moist, the stuffing flavourful, vegetables were in keeping with our traditional Turkey meals at our house, as in there were Brussels sprouts! We both love sprouts (maybe me more than my wife LOL). The dinner also came with mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce and excellent gravy. Personally, we could have use more cranberries and gravy but I’ll ask for extra next time we take out from Medley’s. I don’t mind paying a bit more if I can get extra.
The portions were huge! I mean, big, we could have almost split one dinner it was that big. Cudo’s to Medley’s for not skimping on the Turkey and all the fixings.
The menu is extensive given the lunch/dinner menu, Italian menu and the Summer BBQ menu not to mention breakfast and desserts. Prices were very reasonable as well. It’s hard to find good food at great prices these days and Medley’s delivered on both.
I can’t speak to dinning in experience or service since we ordered to go, however, there were lots of people on the patio and a few more tables occupied inside. The decor was modern and tasteful and I’m sure when it’s busier in the winter the room feels more inviting. If anything, it was a bit stark. That said, it wouldn’t hold me back from dinning in.
We can’t wait to try some of the other dishes given our experience with the Turkey dinner. The BBQ Brisket salad or Chicken and ribs sound good, or maybe Cajun Jambalaya pasta or anything from the Italian menu . . . . decisions,...
Read moreWow!!! Just.... wow! The chef at Medley's is a true artiste - every food item delivered is an example of "food as art".
I had lunch here, expecting a standard hotel diner experience. Boy, was I surprised! The calamari was exquisite - perfectly fresh, the dipping sauce nicely matched - and a lovely balance of colours with peppers that made the presentation as good as the taste.
Next up was my schnitzel. Super!!! Easily up to the standards of a German restaurant. (I asked the waitress about it - it turns out, the chef recently immigrated from Germany, where he was a master chef. I have no doubt that, once he's saved up some money, he'll open a ultra high end restaurant rivalling the best in the city. Meanwhile, this really is your chance to enjoy fine dining at a bargain price.)
One of the friends with whom I was dining had the butternut squash ravioli. She commented the pasta was cooked al dente, to perfection, and the sauce was fantastic. Topped with prawns that were apparently delicious as well.
Trying to lose weight, but this place was too good to skip dessert. The creme brûlée is made in house and I can report that it came up to the standards of the rest of the meal!! Forgot to take a picture though.
I think I have a new favourite...
