It's with much regret that I make this review as I was very hopeful about this new venue for our area. Unfortunately, it has far far to go. This will be long and is meant only to help and be constructive so I hope they read and take it in. Firstly, one has to do their homework and acknowledge the main demographic in the area....here it's boomers....and also their kids. It's always good to look around the restaurant and say hmmm, we have lots of over 50's here tonight....or 20 somethings etc and then put music on that the main demographic will enjoy....in either case not so loud that people can't talk at their table but loud enough to enjoy it....balance....it's not a dance club. Now for the food, the menu is far far....far....too extensive, and all, yes all, restaurants that have a menu that does not specialize fails. Nix the faux sushi etc (it's not good and there's a japanese restaurant right around the corner). Just an idea...but if you special in awesome salads (eg. beet and goat cheese etc) and a ceasar salad with fresh grated parmesan on top, and make 5 really awesome single serving to double serving size pizzas, really fat juicy burgers....and home cut (with the skin, not frozen bagged) fries that are hot, fat, and crisp....you will do well. Add in a salmon burger. How about some great appies such as deep fried pickles (quarter sliced and dried before fried), potato skins that are fat with cheese and real bacon bits, garlic butter prawns, chicken tenders...not nuggets (prepare for the day instead of frozen bags of "food"). BTWay, don't have sangria on the menu if you won't make it authentically.....that's a big faux "poo". Make it the traditional way.....fresh cut fruit....red wine and juice with ice and serve it in a big pitcher....sell it that way...not by the glass with sorbet on top...no. These are just some ideas but a basic rule of thumb is to specialize....not have items that ethnic restaurants do far far better....like curry and sushi. As for the staff, our waitress ... tho she did not listen clearly to our order and got one item wrong....was awesome (Aleshia). Very attentive and lovely....however....one pet peeve is that once the table is cleared and it's also clear the people are ready to leave...bring the bill right after clearing....not 15 or more minutes later. The bartender was lovely as well. When we could see it might be even longer to get our bill we went to the bar to show that we want to leave and two or three other wait staff were just standing yakking....avoiding eye contact. Nope....get on it....right away. I do believe if you really listen to patrons and make some changes you will do well here. Take all of this info to heart because this is 40 plus years at eating at every kind of restaurant high end to street vendors....all over the world...experience. We all want to love you and we all want to keep you. Just have to fine tune...smaller menu and specialize....be cognizant of the demographic each day/night....be attentive even if it's not your table.....and the most important of all...don't try to be every other kind of restaurant....be your own....make your mark and keep it simple so that it's easier and smoother. We will be back and want to support you.....make the changes. Cheers. PS...Decor is a nice Japandi style, but cold with no personality. Ur in the mountains....how about some beautiful local natural landscape art....metal art with bears....trees?? something that says North...
Read moreI came in last week with my family as Iâm born and raised in Lynn valley and couldnât wait for a new restaurant to join our little town. We walked in and the host seemed almost offended we asked for a patio table when it was a beautiful sunny day. We finally got seated, menued and was exciting to start our night. 20 minutes go by, and finally we are greeted by our server, who for lack of a better term was an air head. She walked out to take our drinks, we asked what the house lager is and she was confused, so we asked for a sample of it and that was the beginning of the worst experience at a restaurant Iâve ever had. She had no knowledge of any of the drinks, couldnât even use the little iPad to punch things in, then half way through taking our drink order, said Iâll be back. And walked away for 10 minutes. Came back and said âsorry I had to get my brain in checkâ then goes âawwww a dog, okay what did you wantâ. Finally finish our drink order and thought we were being punked. Drink order finally comes out, my ceaser had no spices in it. Was just Clamato, and we all already wanted to leave but we felt bad cus she said itâs her first week. We start to order dinner finally, I wanted to add lettuce and pickles to my burger and that almost broke this server. She couldnât figure out how to do that or where the buttons were, and then had to ask 3 times what I was trying to add cus she couldnât remember. She had a bit of at attitude that we had food mods. Food comes out after 30 minutes, it was all mediocre and the truffle fries donât come with dip. She doesnât come around to check on us for so long, we finally ask for a dip, $2 to add a dip for your fries. She doesnât check on us for so long again all our plates sat there for so long. Finally it came time to pay, I asked for a box. Had to ask 3 times. She brings out the machine and then doesnât even make convo with us or even try to say sorry for her service. My whole experience there was horrible. We will never return. Train your staff better before throwing them out there to serve tables. It seemed like you guys grabbed her off the street and handed her an iPad. Sad that this place is this way. Decor is pretty and has potential but your staff is horrible. Our server had a almost shag mullet, not trying to be rude but please train her better! Sheâs pushing your...
Read moreI definitely wanted to support a new restaurant in Lynn Valley because it's both needed and welcomed. Please note that this review comes at a time when the restaurant has only been open for a month, so I'm optimistic that things will only get better.
Our server was exceptional, coming from a background at Cactus, Earls, and Pinnacle, which provided her with a wealth of experience and a friendly demeanor.
Our group consisted of 7 people, and although the 3 appetizers we ordered arrived a bit late, it wasn't a major issue. However, one person in our group received their meal alongside the appetizers, leading to an awkward situation where they wanted to wait for others, but their food was getting cold. I mean it was a good 15 minutes from when he got his meal until the rest of us got ours.
The server didnât receive a five-star rating from us mainly because she neither addressed the delay nor offered an apology or any compensation, even though we noticed that people who arrived after us were served before us. Kind of avoided addressing the scenario until we brought it up.
The restaurant specializes in burgers, and having tried their River District location, I can attest to the quality of their burgers. The server mentioned that this was their first attempt at offering a full menu, which includes a wide variety of options. Unfortunately, three of us who wanted the prime rib found it was sold out, as well as the prime rib dip, giving the impression of being a 'jack of all trades and master of none'. Our orders included a range from burgers (which were good), to pizza (average or below), fish & chips (very average, with a wilted side salad that was inedible), and a rice bowl with tofu (which was good).
The major issues were the serving times and the staggered arrival of our food. Apart from the burgers, which were decent, the rest of the food was average.
The atmosphere was somewhat subdued, and the decor bland and unfinished-looking. Adding some plants or other elements could enhance the vibe significantly.
I'm willing to give this place another chance in about 6 months to see if improvements have been made. I'm hopeful for their success. Best of luck to Romar's â we're...
