THE WORST SERVICE EVER Really enjoyed this restaurant when they first opened. They had a great lunch and dinner special with huge portions for a great price. Brought friends, family even celebrated my fathers birthday here. Quality of service has declined as they thought they gained a good reputation (used to be busy) but if you go by there now it's probably empty and I will tell you why...one day I came in and asked for lunch combo special - it comes with spicy dai chicken or beef, rice, wonton soup and spring rolls. The owners wife told me lunch special is over because it was past 3:30 and I would have to pay the dinner combo price. It was 10 minutes before lunch period was over but I agreed anyway. I waited at the bar until my food was ready. There was only one senior at restaurant at the time and he was waiting for his take out too. She handed him his take out and he asked if spring rolls were in the bag and she agreed and also told him everything is in there including Wonton soup and he left. My order came up and she handed me a bag with one container so I asked where my spring rolls and Wonton soup was? She told me I never ordered it and I told her that I specifically pointed it out on the menu and she told me I had to pay dinner price opposed to lunch so how could this be? Then she told me "no your fault you told me only Dai spicy chicken". I knew she was embarrassed and that is why she was puting the blame on me which you NEVER DO with customers so I asked to just add spring roll and Wonton since she charged me for them. THEN she tells me that because of the power outages they couldn't cook Wonton soup or spring rolls that day. I left in anger and as I was leaving one of her kids (who run around the restaurant) asked why she said the power is out. I got home with one container of chicken. No rice, no Wonton soup or spring rolls. DON'T LIE TO YOUR RETURNING CUSTOMERS AND NOT GIVE THEM WHAT THEY ASK FOR! I never wrote a review in my life but this horrible service had to be exposed. Now I stick with Yama sushi 2-3 times a week next door (favourite restaurant) and glare at wonderful szechaun house...
Read moreFood 3.5 stars, service (-)5 stars. Where do I start? First incident: pick up my order, get in my car, check my order and find a shrimp dish which I didn’t order but missing my beef dish. I went back inside and told the son of the owner about the mistake. He said I ordered it so I need to keep it but I can buy an extra beef dish. I explained to him I didn’t order this dish and would NEVER, EVER, order a shrimp dish as my son is allergic to shrimp. I suggest he might have made a mistake with another customer’s order. He said that he did not and that was on my order. I argued with him and he finally change it for my beef dish.
Second incident: Went back because there is not much choice for Chinese food in North Van. Well, bad decision! Pre-ordered my meal ahead of time because I needed to pick up my son at soccer then drop off the food at home with my son, and drive my other son to hockey. When I got to the restaurant, the owner told me my husband already picked up my order which he didn’t. It turned out they give my order to another customer so they have to make mine from scratch again. The owner, her daughter and the cook started screaming at each other in Chinese about the mix up.
I had to tell them to stop arguing, do it when I am gone, and to hurry to prepare my order……. I had to come back in 20 min which made me late for my son, the other one drop off, etc. The best/worse part…… I finally came back to pick up my order and I asked for a discount on my meal (they didn’t offer) as their mix up caused me a lot of hassles. The owner offered few dollars off. I said the inconvenience they caused me worth much more than few dollars and that their customer service was sub par. I told they have no business etiquette.
The 18 yo daughter joined the discussion and told me I was insensitive to their business! Who made the mistake? I told them that they should assume their mistakes and not make the such a big deal about it. The daughter got upset and told me to get in my car. Never I’ve seen a teenager speak to an adult client this way while the mom (owner) was watching.
What a family!!! Should not deal...

"Wonderful Szechuan" unfortunately fell short of its name. While the rice and chow mein were ok, the rest of our meal was a disappointment.
The lemon chicken was a major letdown. The breading was overly greasy and the lemon sauce was excessively sour. The pork was chewy and had an unpleasant flavor.
To make matters worse, the spring rolls were burnt and dripping with grease.
The online menu prices were significantly lower than the actual in-restaurant prices, leading to an unexpected and expensive meal. Mental note: always confirm the total bill when placing orders using a paper menu photographed for online.
To add insult to injury, the lady at the front counter was quite rude when I expressed surprise at the inflated prices. Perhaps I should have taken the cue from the completely empty dining room.
Given the quality of the food, the pricing discrepancy, the poor customer service, and the overall lack of atmosphere, "Wonderful Szechuan" is overpriced and I would...
