I went here with my siblings since we heard from a friend that the Korean food served was pretty good.
Right off the bat, it was kinda weird since they didn't seem to have many menus available for customers, a total of four. (If you're wondering why it's a 5 star review, keep reading) I'm assuming this will change over time.
I have no complaints about the service, it seems to be at a decent pace, arguably even faster than some of the well known Korean restaurants I've been to in Montreal (including Ganadara and Mon Ami). The waiter asked as at one point during the meal if there was any comments about the food, in terms of taste and spiciness. I guess this was in order to get some feedback, which was pretty interesting considering that they were relatively new.
What most of you are probably wanting to read about is the food, and let me tell you this: it was amazing. We ordered their Sweet Seasoned Chicken, Pork Bulgogi, Beef Bulgogi and Pot Stew. Everything was FREAKING. DELICIOUS. Even the miso soup, which caught my brother and I off guard. It was, in my opinion, the most delicious Korean food I had ever had. I highly recommend ordering their chicken to share as a side dish with your main meal.
Portions were right, and for people complaining about prices, you've clearly never been to a decent Korean restaurant. Prices were 100% fair.
They seem to be relatively new to this whole thing, and are clearly learning a day at a time. As what seems as a family owned restaurant, I'm glad that I no longer have to travel far to get delicious Korean food.
As a bonus, they gave everyone in the restaurant a small plate of steak pork to try and provide feedback, and holy hell it was so tender and delicious. It was so good that we quickly cleaned the plate. Unfortunately I didn't get a picture of that since we were too busy...

We arrived at the restaurant and it was packed so we were expecting good food. (Which it was) however, the service was so bad we will definitely not return.
Our waitress took our order of fried chicken for myself and bibimbap for my girlfriend. We had asked if the fried chicken came with sides. Our waitress mentioned that it comes with a coleslaw and that if we wanted any other sides we just had to ask. I asked for some Kimchi on the side (which never arrived) and a beer. I ordered a fried chicken and a bibimbap for my girlfriend. When the beer arrived I noticed a sticker on the side of the beer that had a date that was expired, I'm not too picky about it and decide to drink it anyways. When we brought this up to the waitress she had apologized and told us she would remove it off the bill. The waitress returned with a chef and mentioned that the sticker is actually the purchase date of the beer (i have never heard of any beers that do this). The fried chicken arrived and was placed in the middle of the table for us to share. We had time to finish the fried chicken before any sight of the bibimbap. When we asked the waitress she apologized and mentioned that it was on the way (other people who had arrived after had already received their full orders.) To apologize she brought us our choice of soda! ....
In comes our order of bibimbap that we decided to share (which was delicious). After five minutes of eating around our dirty fried chicken plate we decide to take initiative and put our plates on the dirty table next to us since they seemed to not care about our table.
No one had come to ask us how the food or service was, neither during the meal or...
Read moreThis review is for the fried chicken at Restaurant Matjip. The chicken is crispy and juicy but not overly greasy. The crispy texture is definitely Korean style, similar to the style you would find at your favorite Korean fried chicken destination. Has a little kick of spice in the background but even if you aren't big on spicy food, you should have nothing to worry about here. A lot of the flavors I taste coming through seem to be herbs/seasoning (which you can see cooked into the batter). The coleslaw is not of the creamy variety (so maybe more of a vinegar type), and actually tastes kind of sweet. The creamy onion sauce is also kind of sweet and a nice flavor, although I did find myself enjoying the chicken a bit more without it (although I often like my fried chicken as is, without any sauces or dips). While the flavor of the sauce is nice, it can overpower the chicken if you dip too deeply but little dips can add a nice dimension of flavor. All in all, I very much enjoyed the the fried chicken from Restaurant Matjip. It is similar to other Korean fried chicken, especially in texture but still unique in the flavors compared to other places I have tried. I would...
