This was my first time eating Ethiopian food; it will not be my last! Awash Ethiopian Restaurant is located fairly centrally, ten or so minutes north of downtown, and is within easy driving distance. There isn't a parking lot but there is sufficient side-street parking with easy access to the entrance. There were four of us and we had the injera, which is Ethiopian flatbread, and five absolutely delicious entrees: Lamb Tibs, Awash veggie combo (which comes with many varied vegetable dishes), Yemisir Wot (an outstanding, fairly spicy red lentil dish), Doro Tibs (marinated chicken breast), and a sizzling beef dish, of which I cannot recall the name. Every dish was extremely flavourful, many quite (but not too) spicy, and it was difficult to choose a favourite. But ultimately, for me, it came down to either the Lamb Tibs or the Awash Veggie Combo, and perhaps the Yemisir Wot. There was enough for all four adults with some leftovers, which we were only too happy to take home. The dining experience was interesting; being used to western cuisine we were surprised then intrigued that there was no cutlery or individual plates. Instead we used the flatbread to get each bite of food. It led to a very enjoyable and fun sociable meal! My husband and I will be going again, and again, so as to try out some...

We were quickly greeted by Limu (sorry about the spelling), this man wears many hats. He greets you at the door, takes your order and serves your food, I think he's the owner of this establishment.
The restaurant wasn't busy when we got there but it quickly became busy and Limu didn't miss a beat.
We ordered the Cha Cha Tibs, Doro Tibs and Shiro Wot. I've had these items before from other Ethiopian restaurants but this version tasted better and those other restaurants were amazing as well.
What my wife and I appreciated was when Limu asked us how spicy we wanted our food, I didn't realize how spicy a certain dish was. We appreciated that as we don't have a super high spice tolerance. It's this attention to detail that will have us coming back.
My wife had never tried Ethiopian food and she was blown away by the presentation and how fun you can eat this food.
If you've never had Ethiopian food before, please come to this restaurant; you won't leave disappointed. 😊
I give this place 2 👍🏼👍🏼and would highly recommend this place for all...
Read moreWow I was craving Ethiopian food today and so glad I chose to go with this place after reading all the great reviews! It did not disappoint! The lamb dish i got with the injera was soooo delicious and flavorful and spicy just like I asked. It was sooo satisfying and worth the long drive. The place is small and cozy with beautiful African decor. I had the whole restaurant to myself! Will definitely be back.
The only issue I had in the bathroom was the toilet paper and paper towels not coming out but no big deal 😁
Update! The takeout order was a complete disappointment! First off I ordered doro wot and lamb tibs but instead of the lamb i got a veggie platter. I spoke to the owner and obviously there was a misunderstanding. I am sure I said lamb on the phone when I ordered. In the future please confirm takeout orders with the customer. I was disappointed in the veggie platter not worth $20 and doro wot came with 1 small drumstick of chicken for me and my mom to share another $20 for that and we got no meat. She wanted the lamb and was very disappointed with that small one piece of chicken. I drove 1 hour in...
