Coriander Cuisine used to be my favorite Indian restaurant for takeout in Edmonton, yet today is likely the last time I'll order from them. While the food has always been fairly inconsistent, today's order (July 13, 2022) was ridiculous. For starters, the curry serving size we got was about 60% less than in previous visits (we got about 1.5 cm in sauce). Where's the rest of the meal?! The sauce was bland, and seemed like it came straight out of a can. The chicken was chalky. We also ordered garlic naans, which used to be freshly made by hand, and most likely entirely in store. It was great! However, all the naans are now the same shape and the same dense texture, and are more comparable to the quality you'd find in Superstore, then reheated before being served.
In other words, it seems that the restaurant had moved to shrinking their serving sizes and buying low quality, mass produced items, such as their curry from a jar, and naans from a grocery store. Did the restaurant get new management? How are other regulars responding to these changes?!
In any case, while I've previously enjoyed at least a couple dozen orders of takeout from Coriander Cuisine before, unless they drastically change from their new approach, I wouldn't recommend ordering...
Read moreI don’t typically go to this area for east indian food but what a treat! The staff was kind and patient with answering questions we had. Its within a residential so it seemed like we were not going to the right place but google maps brought us there correctly! Plenty of parking. I did not see the wheelchair accessibility in the front of the restaurant but the layout does seem to accommodate wheelchairs, walkers , mobility devices and strollers. So best to call ahead in case. The veggie pakora was good. We enjoyed the sauces it came with as the veggie pakoras could have used a bit more seasoning. We ordered chicken chettinad which was nicely seasoned in my opinion and not spicy at all. I prefer my chettinad to be spicier but my friend does not do well with spicy food and even with “1” chilli scale it was quite spicy for them, so if you are spicy intolerant haha- you might want to try a different dish. If you like spicy i would suggest you ask for more they use a 1-5 chilli scale 1 being the least and 5 being very spicy! I would also just skip the saffron rice and just stick to regular rice! i didn’t really get a hint of saffron at all and at $8 i don’t think it was worth it. If i am back in the neighbourhood i would...
Read moreDisappointed for the second time. We ordered takeout tonight, as soon as I opened the bag I could smell burnt food. It was the chicken pakora, it was hard and definitely burnt/ overcooked. I called the restaurant to let them know, I was told that's how they cook it! The chef continued to say there was nothing they could do and next time to let them know before hand. The butter chicken was okay, but I also found burnt black food floating in the sauce.
Our first visit here we sat in the restaurant, the waiter helped us choose some dishes that were not supposed to be spicy as we have small children, the food was decent but every dish was spicy. We had the same experience tonight, do not go by the 🌶️ pepper rating system if you choose to eat here.
*Edit. I just noticed that coriander cuisine reply a year later. For the record, I did not get my order mixed up and I was not offered a replacement. How incredibly insulting for you to reply in this way to save face. When I did call in to let them know our food was burnt I was incredibly kind and I was treated rudely and in a dismissive nature. The food was so dry and burnt I threw it in the garbage. I love supporting local but will not be returning to...
