I visited Hunan Family Cuisine in Edmonton after friends recommended it a while back. Overall, the restaurant has a nice setup - the modern decor with the old style chalkboard made it feel quite interesting. In terms of food, I don’t know much about Hunan Cuisine but I could definitely tell that they use quite a bit of pepper in their dishes. Everything was nice. Tasty, authentic dishes; worth a visit. Food was less spicy than what I expected (better for those not used to Hunan spice levels. Clean interior, good presentation, service was attentive. Menu leans more towards pork and chicken dishes (few fish and veg dishes) but they were out of ingredients for a few dishes when I visited. Given that I had called in advance to order, the speed at which dishes arrived was slow for a Chinese restaurant. They quoted me 30+min wait for lunch. I suggest calling ahead to save time.
