It was nice of this restaurant to open during Boxing Day. Business was slow and the hours indicated a 9 pm close. The restaurant was intending to close at 8:30 pm when we arrived around 8:10 pm but they didn’t turn us away and welcomed us to have dinner, which was very nice of them.
The atmosphere of the restaurant is very calming, with a significant amount of decor from Thailand. One would find it quite relaxing to eat here, listening to what seemed like mellow Thai pop music in the background.
We tried a few dishes. A basil seafood noodle (Pad Kee Mow), Chicken Satay, Massaman Beef, and Rad Na Chicken.
I had never tried Massaman Beef at any Thai restaurant before so it was new to me. I asked the restaurant whether the beef was tender since I hate hard to chew beef with curry. To my surprise, like they promised, the beef was extremely tender. There was only a hint of spiciness in the yellow coloured curry. It went very well with the coconut rice that we ordered. I would give this dish a 5/5. My only gripe is that the small bowl of rice was $5. I’m not used to paying for rice, let alone so much for a small bowl of rice; let’s just say it’s premium here.
Chicken satays are something I love to eat when I’m in Asia. Unfortunately, the chicken satay disappointed me a little. The cooking style that was used and the curry sauce provided was very good. However, the white meat was extremely dry when served. I would have preferred dark meat for the satay but I have also had very tender chicken breast so I don’t think it’s an excuse to have dry taste. I would rate this as a 3/5. If they improved on the juiciness of the meat, it would be excellent.
The basil seafood noodle was tasty and had a decent amount of seafood mixed in. I didn’t find anything particular spectacular about the dish but it also didn’t disappoint. I would give it a 4/5. We wanted something very spicy but it didn’t turn out spicy at all.
The last dish, Rad Na chicken, was also something I have never tried before. Think of this like noodles in a thick soup with chicken and some vegetables. The taste was flavourful and my son seemed to really enjoy it. For that, I would give it a 4/5. Like the basil seafood noodles, there wasn’t anything that popped out to make me super excited about the dish but it also wasn’t bad.
Overall, I do think I enjoyed the restaurant. Service was extremely fast and friendly and atmosphere was enjoyable. My strongest suggestion would be to use higher quality ingredients that make the dishes extra special and tasty. While not my favourite Thai restaurant, I will still come back to try again...
Read moreNot impressed. I want to give this at least 3 stars but I can't force it. I have been here several times and it's been hit or miss, but lately miss. After ordering take out and excitedly speeding home to eat as this was a special treat for my wife and I, disappointment quickly set in after opening our containers.....
I ordered a green chicken curry, red beef curry, chicken pad thai and som tum salad. The curries were bland, almost watery with the exception of the red. I ordered this extra hot and it had a slight tickle of heat, almost enough that a 4 year old might have some discomfort. I've had a spicier flamethrower burger at Dairy Queen.
The meat portions were pathetic and made me second guess my order thinking they were vegetarian as they consisted of at least 95% bamboo shoots. At $17 a pop this was not a worthwhile choice. Same deal with the pad thai, lacked flavour and the noodles looked pale and sad. Im not sure if they even hit the wok with any sauce before packing. Again, not worth the $17. The som tum salad was decent, flavourful and had some heat. Probably the best dish of the night which is still not worth $14. The last time I paid for a salad over $15, the greens were flattened with a whole grilled chicken breast, garnished with tiger prawns!
Moral of the story, put some effort, quality ingredients and consistency into your food if you plan to charge these prices. Next time I plan to splurge and treat myself, I will...
Read moreI have been wanting to eat here for awhile, just so happens we were driving by and it was time to eat! Upon entering we were greeted, there weren’t many people in the restaurant I would assume due to the hockey game going on. We sat down and were brought menus and waters. Took us a little while to decide on a couple dishes. As always we have to get a couple different things so we got the green curry chicken (hot) I wanted some heat, with a side of coconut rice, pad kee mow- noodles with some seafood and veggies and talay duerd seafood with some veggies in a lovely curry sauce. Everything was so very tasteful! I am huge fan of Thai food and usually get a little more spice, but had my partner sharing so kept it a little lower. I can say we left very satisfied and the service was excellent, such friendly people, I’m assuming the man was the owner as he was very friendly and chatted with us for awhile. I can say for sure we will definitely go back there for some more food it...
