Most of the food was good but the steaks were terrible, which is a bummer since they're meant to be the main attraction. The staff were very nice and the server was very knowledgeable about their whole menu which seemed simple at first glance but was quite complex since everything had feature options and rotating selections. The atmosphere was not the greatest. Very brightly lit especially for an 8pm dinner, it's a very small space and the tables are spaced very close together. There was no ambient music or anything that i could here so it was just a crowded room of people trying to talk over each other. I could barely hear the server or my wife taking but could tell you all the conversations that were going on at all the other tables, and felt like if I talked loud enough for my wife to hear, we'd be disturbing other people around us or sharing our private conversation with everyone in the room. As for the food, we had the Elk Tartare and Scotch Egg to start, both of which had lots of flavor. I had the wagyu flat iron steak which is meant to have lots of marbling and be tender. There was no marbling to speak of and the steak was tough. The fact that it was cooked poorly only added to the chewiness. It looked like it was pan fried at a high temperature for a short time cooking the outer 20% of the steak fine but leaving the inner 80% of it blue rare. The flavor of the meat itself was ok, but other than a light sprinkling of flake salt there was no seasoning or herbs added at all. Luckily it came with a red wine reduction to give it some kind of depth. My wife had the sirloin which had the same shortcomings on cooking at seasoning, but was actually more tender and flavorful than the wagyu which was twice the price. The wagyu would have been bad if it was a $20 steak, never mind a $100 steak. I have had wagyu before and this was nowhere near expectations. Their side dishes were good. Warm German potato salad and vegetables. My wife had the creme brulee for dessert which was runny but tasted good. I had a port that was cloudy and had sediment floating in it and tasted like it had gone bad. I saw the staff discussing the bottle while looking at our table before putting the bottle off to the side but never came back to the table or mentioned it to me. I wish I'd taken pictures, at least of the steak and port because the problems were visually obvious. It's worth mentioning I never complained about any of it to the server. I don't believe that someone should have fo make a fuss in order to get good quality food, especially at that price point, and especially when the staff can already see there's a problem. I simply vote with my dollars and for the $360 of them it cost for a meal for 2, they definitely won't be voting for...

This was my experience there and may not reflect the experience of others. As Rge Rd has a great rating, I’m sure others have had an exceptional experienced there.
Long story short, no matter how much you spend at a restaurant, service should be standard and the same amongst all guests.
Me and my wife went to Rge Rd for our wedding anniversary hoping for a special evening. The host welcoming us into the restaurant was great. Spent the time to engage with us enough to make us comfortable and excited to dine there.
Unfortunately once we were seated, our server was, in short, sub-par. To start she only acknowledged my wife when explaining the details of the menu. Minimal eye contact with myself even when I asked her the specific questions about the menu.
Throughout our experience, our server neglected our table numerous times and kept us waiting for things I thought would normally be much quicker (such as more alcohol purchases, more food orders and a dessert order). As mentioned, we waited for additional alcoholic beverage orders (which typically is the fastest service due to profit margins), waited to make an additional bread order that never came about because she never came around to check on us.
At the end of the meal, we wanted to have dessert (initially) and some night caps, but waiting 20 minutes to get acknowledged made us decide against it. Minimal tip due to lack of service. Didn’t want to tip at all but I used to work in the industry so I felt bad not leaving anything.
On the other hand, the table on either side of us got top notch service. They ordered bottles of wine and top items on the menu which definitely motivated our server to neglect us and pay more attention to the bigger spenders.
Unfortunately we were looking forward to a good night but left unimpressed due to the lack of service. I’m sure my experience is probably an anomaly but it needs...
Read moreWanting to try one of Edmonton’s top restaurants known for its farm to fresh concept, we celebrated my wife’s birthday and splurged on the tasting menu.
The restaurant is cozy and homey with comfortable atmosphere that’s small but not cramped. The staff is extremely professional and friendly and explained all the dishes.
The wine menu offers a small selection of half bottles which is nice because like most fine dining experiences, all the others are in the $150-200 a bottle range which is not worth it when the meal is already $110 each. They also have reasonably priced local craft beer and various cocktails. My wife had a decent glass of a red wine from Greece which we didn’t even know exported wine.
Unfortunately, the food itself didn’t “wow” me the way tasting menus should. It started with gazpacho which was quite good but may have been the highlight. Bison tartare was good but not great.
Pasta was angel hair with a Taber Corn sauce. While I appreciate the notion of locally sourced seasonal food, creamed corn isn’t a good match for pasta and failed for me.
The meat was defiantly a disappointment. In my opinion, smoked brisket is the cheapest cut of meat a fine restaurant might offer and it doesn’t belong on the menu if a $110 meal. While I don’t expect ribeye which they charge over $200 for, a tip sirloin or similar cut would’ve been appreciated.
Served with charred kale and a large portion of what’s really baked beans, the main lacks creativity for my money. The dessert was just OK and should always stand out at the end of an expensive six course meal. No one flavor stood out and the raspberry sauce was way too minuscule to appreciate.
Overall not a bad experience but for $319, I excepted one of the best dining experiences possible and if this it for Edmonton, we’ll save our money for European...
