A few months ago, I made a call about a special surprise birthday order. As I was unsure of which are the best doughnut shops are in Edmonton as I am from Vancouver. Yes, there were a few businesses to choose from but I am so glad I made the right choice by choosing Destination Doughnuts! Arlyn is one of the nicest, sweetest people I've met in a long time. He was so accommodating with my request for my order. I had the pleasure of meeting him when I was in Edmonton last week for a wedding in Jasper (plus I had to try these amazing doughnuts that I could only view on the internet). Sad part, I had to leave. I was able to bring 15 doughnuts to my friends and family in Vancouver. They were definitely a hit here in Vancouver! I hardly ever write reviews, yet to write one about doughnuts. Let me tell you something about myself. I am not much of a doughnut person. I'll have them occasionally and I'm a very picky doughnut person. I am a world traveller and have had many doughnuts or things that have resembled doughnuts globally. Usually I'm quite disappointed with doughnuts, especially locally and locally to me means within North American standards. The only place in the world where I hold high regards to for food in general is Japan (and they do amazing North American chain doughnuts there). I cannot say anything negative about Destination Doughnuts. I was able to try about 60% of what they had to offer in my 3 short days I had in Edmonton. Everyone loved the lemon meringue doughnuts here in Vancouver. I never thought this lovely shop would hold a special spot in my stomach ;) I wish I had a shop at home, but it would be so dangerous for me. If you haven't been in here, go ahead and go in; your stomach and tastebuds will not be disappointed. *I went down a couple blocks to Remedy cafe for a drink and ate the doughnuts there. That will be a separate review. I had the lemon meringue and strawberry cheesecake one the first day I was in Edmonton. :)

This morning, I had the pleasure of visiting this wonderful establishment and started my tasting journey with the Reese’s Pieces donut. The donut was fresh, tender, and most importantly, delicious. It’s topped with peanut butter and sprinkled with candy and chocolate—definitely a treat to be eaten carefully to avoid any mess. While I thoroughly enjoyed it, I think it could be even better with a filling, like custard, for example. Hopefully, the shop might consider adding something like that in the future after reading this review. I definitely recommend stopping by to indulge in their tasty and delightful donuts! -- Today, I tried a strawberry cheesecake donut, and here’s what I’ve got to say: the entire time I was enjoying this treat, I didn’t feel the need to wash it down even once. The juiciness of the berries, the cream, and the jam all blend together in perfect flavor harmony. It’s not overly sweet, and the balance of spices is just right. I really enjoyed this donut and would happily recommend everyone give it a try! -- Tried the blueberry doughnut. Great combination of sugar balance a little creaminess pumped it up, but imagining the creamy slightly vanilla flavor of the cream around the rim of the donut, I can say it's delicious, the lovely addition of the blueberries makes each bite tender, juicy and delicious. Recommended. -- Ordered a Rum & Eggnog today, it's a very tasty donut with a delicate caramel cap and cream inside. I recommend giving it a try, it's totally self-sufficient. -- I stopped by today to try a mango donut. Not a bad doughnut with a crispy sugar glaze cap on top and cream inside, but I found the mango flavor to be understated. -- A very tender and tasty doughnut a chocolate twist, with a light cinnamon aroma and a delicious glaze, the perfectly balanced flavors make for a satisfying snack time treat. Rolo is a delicious donut with caramel topped with chocolate topping and chocolates

Me and my friend were in town and looking for a place to grab breakfast. We went to a couple places downtown but they were all very busy. We happened to drive by Destination Doughnuts and stopped in to check it out. They have an interesting variety of Doughnuts, from something like their Fat Elvis which had bacon on it, a Reese’s doughnut and cheese cake doughnuts. I decided to go with the Lemon Meringue Doughnut, it was good. The meringue was really good, the filling nice, but the doughnut itself tasted no different that a quality doughnut to be had at the Italian Bakery on 118th for a much lower price. So for me that’s the crux of it, yes the additional toppings on the doughnut are nice, but not nice enough for me to want to pay double the price when I cant taste that the doughnut itself is any better. Price wise $4.49 for a single doughnut is fine as a treat, you eat one and move on. I will say I wish they didn’t use the plastic boxes to box up their single doughnuts, feels super wasteful. Also the cost of a dozen doughnuts is $42 and that’s good, since if you bought 12 of them single the cost would be $53, so when you buy a dozen its $3.50 each, so the price is better if you are getting a dozen..

We will not be returning and this makes me so sad. We have loved coming here as young moms with our young kids but after today's visit we feel unwelcome and quite upset. I believe it was the owner, stormed out from the kitchen to tell our kids(age 2&4)who were quietly dancing away from any customers, that they needed to be quiet and go sit down with their mothers. We frequent this establishment because our kids have always been welcomed and treated well until today. He came out again to tell our children to sit down and then came over and advised us that our children were being disrespectful to other customers and that it was not acceptable. Our kids were not being loud and yes, it's hard to keep a two year old in a chair but we were talking to the only other customers there and they thought our kids were cute and enjoyed watching them enjoy their "tea party" and couldn't believe that he was being so rude to us. He also told us that they are family friendly and that's why they provide a high chair... I'm sorry but I'm not able to strap my child in a chair for your convenience. We will not be returning to our favourite donut place and will be happy to bring our community of young moms to another more family...
