Group of nine of us went to Sweet Basil on Sunday. The food was good, but my mother ordered Vermicelli Chicken Bowel. She tasted the sauce that accompanied it and it tasted like sweet so she put it in the bowl on her chicken and took one fork full and her tongue started to go funny. We immediately called over the waitress to ask her if there was any fish in this chicken bowl, she said no, but it was a fish sauce that accompanied it. Well, my mother 82 years old, never in a million years thought that a chicken dish would be accompanied by a fish sauce. She is violently allergic to fish when I said that to the waitress maybe she could just give her the same thing again without fish sauce and she said well somebody's going to have to pay for this bowl of food and we will charge her again. all nine of us felt that this was unfair. A chicken dish should not be accompanied by a fish sauce. My mother paid for it didn't eat anything more just drank water took allergy pills and i took her home. I checked on her every couple hours to be sure her tongue didn't swell a lot In in all my years of going to restaurant. If something like this is happened on the odd odd occasion the meal has been replaced immediately and sometimes it's even been offered free for the new replacement. No charge to that customer . The customer are is...

Love this place!! The restaurant itself is clean & bright & cheery, the service is excellent, & the food is exceptional! We've been coming to a Sweet Basil for years, now, & have never been disappointed by any of the dishes they've served.

(Get the lemonade; it's $3.00 for a pint (20 oz) of hand-squeezed!)

As pescatarians, trying to find reliably good 'red-meat-free' phở has been an ongoing challenge for us. Sweet Basil's 'Vegetarian Noodle Soup' has one of the best vegetarian broths I've ever tasted, the most consistent I've yet found (all other veg pho I've tried in Edmonton have previously had "bad batches"), & the only one (so far) to offer multiple tofu options (steamed or deep fried). In addition to the tofu, broth, & noodles their Veg soup includes a standard selection of veggies (carrot, mushroom, broccoli, cauliflower, celery, green onion, lemongrass), all of which are consistently fresh & flavorful.

Photos of food are lies!

Ordered two 4 colors vermicelli plate and vermicelli plate with beef. Asked for rice instead of vermicelli for all 3 plates. We got lots of rice, 2 tiny spring rolls, and maybe 8 thin slices of beef one inch wide for the beef plate, tiny cut pieces of protein for the 4 color plates. No veggies on plates.

You'll leave hungry and poor for paying that much and getting less than Wendy's!

Photos are lies. I called the restaurant and she came up excuses. Never have I ordered a swap for rice that I didn't get the same toppings (protein, veggies, garnishes) as the menu item listed. All you're doing is swapping rice for noodles, not cutting the protein in half or eliminating everything else!!

The protein was freshly cooked but you only got a few pieces cut into small sizes. Not enough to feed anyone unless you fill up on the dry white rice. You're paying alot of money for a plate of rice. Do not...

Came here as it was closer to our family home. Had a horrible experience. This is not a kid/family friendly restaurant. The lady server at the front was extremely rude to us. When we accidentally spilled water, even after apologizing and telling her we would clean it, she started loudly speaking in her language to the person in the kitchen while rolling her eyes. I did also notice the server reuse the leftover veggies (bean sprouts/mint/lime) that the other table didn’t use. (I felt a bit uncomfortable with this). The soup broth was decent. The spring rolls are extremely small!!!! For $7 not worth it. Overall this was a horrible experience, we could feel that the lady server was not wanting to serve us with her body language and tone.

This restaurant has a clean minimalist aesthetic. I ordered the standard restaurant special pho. I wasn’t disappointed by the taste! Very delicious amazing broth. Unfortunately, the pricing put me off as everything was significantly more expensive than several other pho places in Edmonton I’ve been to ($3+ more expensive on all selection) with similar portions. There was also no condiments on the table readily available like the standard hoisin/chili oil/sriracha sauces which was off putting as well. Overall, while the food was great, I personally would not come here again as you can find the same quality and quantity of food at other established pho locations.
