The British Café (⚓) is a cosy coffee shop that was home to a Bank with a vault still visible, as you enter the establishment. There are four (4) chairs around a non working fireplace (to the right of the main entrance) which is a good spot for a tête-à-tête. There is a picnic table at the back with banquette seating for most of the Café except for one lone table, for two (2), by the front window (my second choice to sit). There are also some tables by the doors that head out to the patio. The patio which is nestled between the Café and the Pub has umbrellas and lots of sunshine. My favourite sandwich is the Chorizo with Roasted Vegetables. They make a good Grilled Cheese, Cubano and Reuben. All of their Soups are delicious, as are all of their Salads (depending on your taste preference). Most of the desserts are brought in, the Brownie and Rice Crispy Square are made there. All the Specialty coffee/teas are excellent. They offer iced coffee and the ice tea is combined with lemonade (both are very refreshing). They even have water "on tap" and also offer wine and beer. There is definitely a problem with computers and monopolizing tables. That is why they only receive four (4) stars . So far, we have always managed to get a table but have seen paying customers leave because there is nowhere to sit. I have voiced my concerns to the British. In the winter time, I suggest that you find a seat first before ordering. Finding a table is not an issue, once the patio is open. The washrooms are located downstairs and there are steps to get in, at both entrances. The patio is the only wheelchair accessible spot. The British Pub next door has two (2) wheelchair accessible entrances (one from the parking lot and one off of the patio) unfortunately, the washrooms are...
Read moreI live nearby and this is such a cute little spot so I'll give it 4 stars!
I would love to rate it better for quality and service but it is expensive for what you get and the service could be better.
Eg. Today I spent $35 for two sandwiches, a pastry, and drip coffees. I ordered the turkey, brie and crossiant sandwich which sounded good in theory however it had no veggies, mayo or other dressing on it. It unfortunately didn't have much taste and could of used some cranberry or honey mustard, veggies or something for the price.
After paying, I asked for the pastry I just ordered 2 seconds prior and I was told I had not paid for it however the barista had confirmed our order back to us.
My partner and I then had our sandwiches and coffees in hand about to sit down outside when we were told to come back to the busy line to pay for the second sandwich. So much confusion over a very simple order, but hard to imagine parting with $35 for the service and quality I got there.
To end on a positive note, the cafe does offer some gluten-free options which is awesome to see...
Read moreWent there this afternoon, cute and cozy place! My experience was a little disappointing. The girl who took my order asked me "what's a dark roast?" (I'm not kidding)... I had to explain to her that they serve medium and dark roast (she works there and the menu is printed on a panel behind her, maybe she is new but I mean you need to at least know what a roast is when you work in a coffeeshop). Then when I was getting ready to pay she almost threw the ATM machine at me, spilling my wallet, cards and sunglasses on the floor (she didn't apologize) and finally when I grab my coffee I found out she charged me for the wrong size. My order was very simple, large dark roast, black and I left a 20% tip (I think I just felt uncomfortable at that point) The barista working on the espresso machine was very nice and apologized for the mixed order. The coffee was great but I think they need to train their...
