If I have an option to give zero star, I would be more than happy to do so after finishing being long-term customers with this Sunset Grill location. My mother and I have been (it will be "used to be" from now on) customers who enjoyed how we started our morning at the Sunset Grill. Yesterday, my mother arrived to the Sunset Grill at 08h10 which is about five minutes prior to my arrival. There were about seven tables filled in and we were seated third last table from the back. 10 to 15 minutes passed, and Cathy the server tried to accommodate a big group of eight people behind us. Since the space was tight, my mother and I decided to move the table so the group has more space to sit themselves and Cathy can serve them better. 10 more minutes passed, Cathy took an order of one table and she noted that that table was there before us. And then she went to the big group which came after us and took an order while we were still "on hold." After spending 40 minutes of being invisible, my mother and I decided to leave to another breakfast place. The young staff who arrived around 08h30 was at the cash and I expressed our frustration of unnecessary spending of my valuable time and coffees. She then started questioning us "Do you mean you got here at 08h?" and I responded that "I said 40 minutes and it is 08h50, so yes, we got here at 08h10. No matter what, it is irrelevant at this point." And then she continued questioning without getting a hint of we were very upset at her and Cathy's attitude "Were you ready to order when you got here? The restaurant is very busy and if you were not ready" then I had to cut her off noting that it is unnecessary to point finger at us. Then Cathy came by accusing us raising our voices and said "You changed your table which messed up my serving system." I acknowledged and responded that we were trying to be helpful and I checked the table to confirm that the big group utilised the table we occupied earlier. No appreciation or apologies came back but only "blame" kept coming back to us that we messed up her arrangement over and over again. I realised that there was no need for an argument any more since these two staffs have any intentions neither to listen nor to resolve the situation, but then this young staff hit the last homerun saying "I will deduct your coffee charge from my pay cheque, you can go." I lost it, and I gave my cash and expressed that such threatening was unnecessary as this is nothing relevant to money. My apology for a long post, however, I believe it is important to share the whole story with as many people as possible so people can make their own judgement call. Lastly, congratulations Cathy, you successfully adapt your system of filtering customers you want to serve. Good luck with your system that works for you without customer...
Read moreMy husband and I came here for the first time last week. He ordered eggs, bacon, homefries and toast and I got the French toast with bacon. We both had the fresh grapefruit juice with it.
We both loved the fresh juice, my husband enjoyed his whole meal for the most part. I thought the French toast was fine, but I've had fluffier french toast with more or a carmelization at some other places. I still thought they good as far as french toast goes though. My biggest issue was the bacon. Not crispy at all, covered in grease for both of us. There was so much grease there was a puddle on both our plates. I really dislike undercooked bacon and a lot of it was chewy fat. I do appreciate that they try to use organic ingredients when possible and use healthier cooking methods. Price was also fair.
The service was great. The atmosphere was a bit too tight. Tables are very close together creating a very loud atmosphere leaving very little room around you.
Overall if you're eating here definitely ask for your bacon to be extra crispy, otherwise it will be very fatty. You may need to dab it with your paper towel to avoid a puddle of oil on your plate when you receive it. Everything else I thought was good and as expected at a good price. You'll get a fancier more flavourful breakfast at symposium with more space and privacy, but for the price difference I would...
Read moreI have been here numerous times with my family and the experience was always positive. Yesterday it was the exception. I usually order Eggs Florentine but I like the eggs well done, over hard. I can’t eat eggs with a runny yoke I really dislike that. I explained that to the waiter when she took the order and perhaps I was not specific enough since I said I wanted them dry but not overly dry but I did mention I didn’t want liquid yoke. When the dish came and I cut through the white sauce all the yoke came running liquid and cold like if they were not even heated. I called the waiter and we established perhaps I was not clear enough or she didn’t understand me. At this point I made it very clear I had an appointment to go to and I didn’t want to see any running yoke on my plate. After a few minutes she brought a new dish and I told her to wait till I cut it and again all the yoke was liquid so it was not cooked as I requested. First time could have been a misunderstanding but second time I made it loud and clear how I wanted it and still it was not cooked right. I left without eating. Only my husband had breakfast. Not a good experience at all. I had this dish before numerous times and this never happened. I don’t know if the waiter couldn’t convey the order right or the kitchen can’t cook it well. Truly...
