Huang's Restaurant — Restaurant in Grand Lake Road

Went with a large party for a birthday and was extremely dissatisfied with the wait time. It was a Saturday night so usually you expect a little wait, especially for a large group, but this was unacceptable.

We reserved for a group of 40 and were given the banquet room to hold us all. The service staff were very friendly and prompt to take our order.

After an hour wait, and having to ask about our food, the cook sent out some eggrolls. This was a nice gesture, but did not make up for our food not coming out for another half hour and some of our party not getting their food until almost two hours of waiting.

During the meal, several members of our group commented on the fact that the restaurant itself was almost empty besides our group.

After the meal, we asked the servers why it had taken so long, and they said there was only one cook scheduled for the night and no dishwasher.

This is extremely poor management since we had reserved well enough in advance to ensure proper staffing. I have always loved the food, but over the years, this restaurant has gotten worse and worse. After this experience, I will probably choose another restaurant when I want...

Ate here for lunch on Xmas Eve 2023. Very friendly service and I liked our server a lot. There is seating for many (over 100 if you consider the main dining room on the right upon entering, and the "large group" room on the left). There was only one other table taken when we arrived. We each ordered a combo #3 (chicken chow mein, sweet & sour chicken, chicken fried rice, egg roll). We each cleaned our plate bc we were hungry. It was ok. The chow mein was a bit dry and flavorless. The balls' batter had a slightly weird taste, hard and a bit crunchy, with a very artificial red coloring and little flavor. The rice was a bit dry and basic. The plum sauce for the egg roll looked artificially yellow and again, minimal taste. Did I hate it? No. Just have eaten a LOT of "Canadian" Chinese this year in Halifax and this place isn't as good. If someone in Sydney wanted to go there with me some other time, I'd still try it again and test different menu items. Prices...

I wish it was possible to give this place zero stars. I was in about 3 weeks ago and it was terrible. The waitresses were rude, the food was gross. First my chicken was under cooked. I had requested bbq sauce upon ordering, and stated if they didn't have it to let me know and I would change my order. They only told me after they brought my food. They gave me attitude about the undercooked chicken. We also ordered onion rings, and said only to bring them if they had sour cream. Again they brought them without it and told us they had none. The club sandwiches were dried up. The waitresses were extremly rude. I made many attempts to contact the manager with no return phone calls. I wanted to give them a chance to correct the issue before leaving this review. Avoid this place and spend your hard earned money somewhere...
