Marble Slab Creamery — Restaurant in Grande Prairie

In all my 17 years in GP, I've popped into Marble Slab once or twice a year. Not once had I ever had to leave due to there not being proper options for lactose intolerance.

I spent all summer looking forward to an ice cream date without kids in tow. I talked up Marble Slab with dotes of "they always have more than just a vanilla for lactose free people" or "maybe they have a new summer flavour of sorbet". I made this place sound like it was the bees knees of ice cream for lactose intolerant people. My mistake.

We walked in, checked out the flavours and immediately noticed they were out of a few tubs. Odd since the weather has been quite cool the last couple weeks, but I brushed that off. Once I looked closer, there was one option. Vanilla. Vegan. The kind that tastes like gritty sand paper mixed into more non-dissolvable ingredients. I know this from trying it last time I visited, about 8 months ago. This is something I expressed to them during that time where they assured me they usually have 4-5 options of non-dairy desserts.

There was only 1 customer in the store when we arrived. Not a single glance upwards towards us, from staff. Not a single acknowledgement that anyone had walked into the store. No ambiance. It was like walking into an empty store with the lack of sound. Not a single chance I'll be back to...

Was a regular for a long time, but haven’t been in probably a year or two. Went tonight on a hot summer night and it was busy, big line up. Staff was moving the line efficiently. Finally it was our turn, my son and I, and we were helped by Carter (if the name on my receipt matches the person who helped us), a wonderful young man. My son has a peanut allergy, and Carter was unbelievably helpful, following great allergy procedures with fresh icecream and a bowl from the back, and then fresh mix-ins as well. Despite having another 10 people behind us, he took on the extra work of the allergy procedure as though it was his absolute pleasure to help my son out. He then made my icecream and rang us through, and his demeanor, attitude and hospitality was some of the best I’ve received in recent memory in any customer service facing role. My son loved his icecream, and I tried a new flavour I had never seen before back when I used to visit more often, English Toffee, mixed with my regular order Coffee and those 2 together was a big hit! Top notch icecream, but honestly, even if the icecream wasn’t incredible, I’d be back to have Carter serve us again, he’s an absolute delight and I hope someone shows him this review! ...

I'm a regular customer at Marble Slab and have been for years. One thing I've always appreciated is the cleanliness of the restaurant, and the icecream and selection of mix ins is gr8. Today was the 1st time I've ever been disappointed. Not the icecream, however. The new young employee. A female with long dark brown hair flowing down in front of her face barely tied back. Hanging low above the icecream as she scooped it. I watched waiting for a hair to fall into my icecream. I politely addressed it with her the best I could and in a way to not embarrass, but she didn't fix it and continued to serve other customers. If I see this again in the future, I'll walk out and won't be back. I trust this will be addressed. I do want to add that the staff here are always...
