The entire experience was extremely disappointing and honestly ruined my birthday dinner.
The keg is my go to birthday place yearly for the white sangria, 3 cheese butter and Billy miner pie. I’ve been coming yearly for 15 + years.
This year the server made us feel like an inconvenience from the start. I ordered a white sangria and asked for no lime garnish due to a fresh lime allergy. It took forever for our drinks, finally the server came back, interrupted me and my guests conversation to tell me that I quote “my manager said no, we won’t serve you the sangria” I have had this drink yearly and am 100% certain I am not allergic, when I asked why she said because it has citric acid in it… citric acid is not the same as citrus and irregardless I am not allergic to citrus I am allergic to fresh lime. It felt like I had beg them to let me order anything and spend my money. After a debate they finally agreed to bring me the drink.
We ordered appys, I asked for the bread with 3 cheese butter and my guest ordered the Neptune appetizer. When the food arrived by a runner I did not have the butter (the 3 cheese butter is the second reason I come to the keg yearly) I flagged down another server and asked for either my server or someone to bring the butter please. No one came with the butter. 20 mins go by and the server finally arrives to ask how appies were, I asked for the butter I ordered and she argued with me that she remembered to put the order in she didn’t know why they didn’t send it, when she finally brought it to me the butter was rock hard cold and my bread was now cold and my guest was already done her appetizer.
I ordered a second sangria that took 20 mins + to be prepared, before it was brought to me the manager came over to talk to me about my allergies again and how he did not want to serve me the second drink, another debate and I was finally allowed the drink. Again it felt like I needed to defend my simple request, no fresh lime as a garnish. Note there is NO lime in the sangria normally, I just say no like in case a bartender decides to garnish with it to be safe.
Then when our dinner arrived rhe manager brought out the wrong food for my guest, and missed all the condiments I purposely asked for when ordering. The saving grace of the evening was that our dinners were delicious thankfully.
On my reservation I specifically said it was my birthday. When walking to the table, when asked what were we’re celebrating I said my birthday, when the server came to the table she asked and I said my birthday. After dinner she came back to the table and asked “are we actually celebrating something” I again said it was legitimately my birthday for the 4th time.
A food runner brought out a billy miner pie which was appreciated and delicious but before we could even order anything else the server brought our bill feeling like she wanted us gone. We would have happily spend another $20-$40 on drinks or another dessert but it was clear the server was done waiting on us and wanted us gone to turn the table over.
I never go out, let alone celebrate myself and it was very disappointing to spend my hard earned money at a place that treated me and my guest like we were the inconvenience for just wanting what we paid for. I will not be returning to the Grande...
Read moreThis was the worst customer service experience we've ever endured. We will never visit another Keg anywhere! My wife's mother passed away Thursday afternoon, we've been busy with visiting relatives and friends. Her eldest son and one of her grandkids came to visit with us Saturday. We decided to go to the Keg in Grande Prairie for supper. Made our reservation for 7:30pm and was told, we only hold your reservation for 15 minutes. Ok! We arrived at 7:28pm and told the hostess we were here. Hostess says it's been busy and people are staying longer than expected, so it will just be a few minutes. At that time there were about 7 other people waiting in the entrance area. Well we patiently waited, the other people being seated and others coming in and being seated. At about 7:45 hostess says it won't be much longer we are just clearing a table. A man and 3 kids came in after that. Then a female waitress with arm tattoos came to the hostess station, a couple of the children that had come in ran up and hugged her, then went back to sit down with the male. The female waitress says to the hostess I'm taking table 31(for the male and kids that had come in after us). The hostess says no these people were here first and have a reservation, indicating to us as we were the only other people left in the lobby. The female waitress left for a minute then came back and took the male and children order in the lobby and left. Shortly after that they were escorted into the restaurant. By this time it was 8:05. All 5 of us were getting quite aggravated with the extremely poor service. We decided the Keg didn't need our money. My wife (who's mother had just passed away), went to tell the hostess that we were not impressed with any of this, again were told we are just clearing a table and it will be ready shortly. Wife explains to the hostess that we had heard the entire conversation she had with the waitress and this is ridiculous. Hostess says well they had a reservation too. They came in after the 15 minutes had expired, if their reservation was at the same time as ours. Manager later called my wife and offered some free apps or drinks for next time, LMFAO next time??? I don't think so!! Will never visit a Keg again anywhere! To the manager of the Grande Prairie Keg, re-read your code of conduct policy and retrain your staff. Do better! At least your waitress got to feel...
Read morePersonally I love the keg restaurants in Vancouver, the food is cooked to perfection and delicious. I always get the same thing 8oz teriyaki steak classic meal which comes with a salad, mushrooms, veggies, and a side choice (always garlic mash). The steak is always cooked the same and comes out tender and juicy. Today we chose to add garlic cheese toast as an apply and I had my usual creme Brûlée for dessert while the boyfriend had cheesecake.
Garlic cheese toast: this was fantastic! Crispy on the outside, soft in the middle with wonderful tasting cheese. Loved it!
Caesar salad: also delicious like always we love the croutons.
Steak: slightly chewy/tough and not as juicy/flavourful as usual.
Mushrooms/veggies: these were quite "rubbery" but did have a nice flavour.
Garlic mash: these are usually one of my favourites and tonight I was very sad to find the quality just not there. They had large lumps, very little garlic flavour, and looked like they had sat out for quite some time (had a skin on them that didn't look appetizing) I didn't even eat half.
Creme brûlée: this would be my other favourite item but again the quality was not the same. The "caramelized sugar crust" was sloppily sprinkled on top even along the rim of the dish and not completely caramelized. As I was eating there was sugar grit in the creme... Very disappointing.
Strawberry cheesecake: this came to us warm for the first time but otherwise was tasty.
Our waitress April was very attentive and on top of our drink situation. I hope she is able to see that we appreciate that.
The keg is usually our go to "fancy night" dinner spot but I can say this will likely not be the case here in GP. Tonight we were celebrating a few special occasions and found the food to be sub-par for the $105 we spent. Typically we go for birthdays, anniversaries, or major life events and have no problem splurging for the special night with an apply, main, and dessert. We had high anticipations and had been looking forward to our "expensive dinner nigh" and are now...
