I've been living in Sudbury for over 10 years and have never visited this place. Discovered it driving by many times but only decided to try it out after seeing if reviewed in the local paper.
I ordered take out: pep, veggie, Hawaiian, and 2 salads: caseer and garden salad.
Prices for these pizzas and salads was on the expensive side. Same price points at Cortina, pizza joint or pizza romma.
The pepp had an interesting taste. A bit burned for my liking in some areas. The veggie and hawaiian were not burned. The crust was pretty bare with no char or brown spots. I can only describe it was a card boardy crunchy texture of the crust. It wasn't soft but it wasn't ultra crispy. Toppings were generous. Enjoyed the char of the pepperoni. But honestly, the crust was burned on the pepp. Which was a bit disappointing.
I ate many slices and didnt feel like it was too greasy.
Salad wise, plenty of toppings and a nice size. Still a bit on the pricey side.
I feel this place brings a lot of nostalgia to many people who lived in Sudbury for some time and that pushes this up into people's favorite pizza joint. For me though, it...
Read moreNew Owners, New Review We just had our first Don's experience since the new owners bought it. When you buy a business that is a local institution, you have to tread very carefully. That being said, the new owners definitely know what they're doing, and nailed it perfectly. They have managed to update the look of the interior - something that hadn't been done in 30+ years. They've turned those red and white checkered tablecloths into the whole motif for the business, and it looks fantastic. They replaced the Ms Pacman machine with a modern multi-game cocktail cabinet. Everything looks more modern, whilst still respecting the history of the business. The food tells the same story. They seemingly haven't changed the Don's Pizza recipe at all. It's still the same crust, the same excellent quality toppings, and the same taste. However they have added a few more upscale dishes to their menu, once again seamlessly blending the old with the new. I've not met the owners, but they're doing an...
Read more1 wordâŚ.AMAZING! The pie was easily a 5/5. Cooked perfectly without even having to ask. Great char on the top and bottom and generous with the toppings. I could only leave 5 stars for the service but it was a 6/5 and they went above and beyond. Weâre from outta town, it was our first time here, didn't know it closed at 7 and we got there at 6:40 on April 18th. The host, Haley, said we could still order and encouraged us to sit down and dine in so we could enjoy the pizza. She said she didnât mind as she had a few things to do around the restaurant after closing as did the kitchen staff. Her and the kitchen staffâs kindness were extraordinary and is in the top 3 of everywhere weâve eaten across North America. The owner is lucky to have staff like that in times like these. Thanks for the best pie weâve had in years and better service than 99% of restaurants. Weâll be back...
