Chocolats Favoris — Restaurant in Guelph

Chocolats Favoris is one of my favourite ice cream/chocolate stores in Canada but unfortunately this particular location falls a bit short in quality vs other locations in Ontario and Quebec.

Let me start off by saying I have nothing against the various dips and ice cream they serve here - that itself is excellent. What I think falls short when compared to other locations is their consistency and availability of products.

I've noticed often the size of the ice cream I order would be widely different and inconsistent compared to my friends. Last Sunday my friend ordered a small while I ordered a mini and ours was almost the same size.

Also, a few years ago (either in the summer of 2022 or 2023), I remember they didn't have chocolate soft serve available. So essentially they only had vanilla or raspberry sorbet as their flavour options.

What really upset me was recently when Chocolats Favoris announced their new dip flavour (Nanaimo bar) they also announced a promo to go along with it on the day of their release (50% off on that dip). This location even had the promo displayed in store but they did not have the dip available (and therefore no promo as well). And it wasn't the first time that they falsely advertised in store. Last year CF ran the same promo for a new monthly flavour they introduced and this location didn't have it on the day of release as well. I even called and checked with other locations in Ontario to see if they have the flavour and they said they did.

Great product, but definitely not worth the wait or the price based on the poor level of customer attention and experience. One cashier, a line up out the door of paying customers on a hot Sunday evening of the May long weekend. 2 people cleaning and wiping and then trying to make cones. The manager hiding in the back training new employees on a busy Sunday night instead of on a rainy day or less busy day or a day or time when the store is not open. No one acknowledging the wait time or explaining or apologizing for the skeleton staff. Just every employee with their head down not making eye contact with the paying customers or explaining why the long wait for an ice cream cone. It’s not like they are preparing a gourmet meal, it is just an ice cream cone dipped in chocolate with sprinkles on it. But lots of people were impatiently watching and waiting for their expensive ice cream wondering what was going on and how hard could it be to serve an ice cream cone. Staff feeling uncomfortable not knowing what to do or say so they just put their heads down and said nothing. There is a clear lack of management and leadership of staff and customers at this location which was clearly very disappointing considering the price and demand for such a good product. I would rather go to Dairy Queen for a better experience and a cheaper price and maybe a smile from the staff to go along with my ice cream. I don’t think it is too...

This ice cream is hard to beat. We've been to several Chocolats Favoris places in Ontario and Quebec. This one doesn't disappoint. Good staff who know how to coat a cone properly, clean store and the ice cream is on point with a great selection of dip flavours. Staff were awesome and offered tasting when I was inquiring about a flavour and also provided a lot of options as to how I could have my ice cream. All employees should be like her! Basically, the coating is so thick that you're eating a chocolate bar with an ice cream, and it's top quality chocolate too! Yes, prices are a little higher vs. parlour ice cream, but it's quality and you taste it. Tried the strawberry sorbet this time and it didn't let me down. Vegan vanilla and cotton candy were also excellent, and I don't like cotton candy. Easy to access location with plenty of parking. Chairs, tables and umbrellas outside, and you can sit inside at the shielded tables too.
