Guelph has some great cafes and coffee shops, and this one is my favourite. This is a BIPOC owned business that ensures a safe and respectful space for all. As a queer and trans person I always feel good about spending time here, and I bring my friends with me often because we know we will be shown the same kindness as all other guests. And while you’re here enjoying the expertly prepared coffee and tea, you absolutely must get yourself a little treat! They make their own amazing sweet pastries and savoury baked goods. My partner is an expert baker with very high standards, which means I’m also picky now, and everything we have tasted here has been sooooo good! You may need to try a Japanese Cheesecake(life changing), but honestly you can’t go wrong no matter what you get. Both washrooms are single seaters and all gender, on the main floor without ramps or steps, and one offers a power door as well as solid grab bars. So they definitely have accessible washrooms. Front door is not a power door, though, fyi. Tables and seats (all without arms, sturdy, and easily moved) are well spaced so folks using mobility devices or strollers should be able to navigate the cafe well. Parking is easy and right outside the door, with a curb cut in front of the barber shop just around the corner from their door for accessibility considerations.

You might notice some 1 star reviews that were all posted around the same time, some from folks who aren’t even from Canada much less Guelph. I don’t know what the heck is going on there, but I’ll take a wild guess that someone got upset over the lack of outlets here because I’ve seen that happen sometimes. The owners want to offer a place where people can enjoy their coffee or meal by being present in the moment, so they have created a beautiful space without places to charge your phone or laptop. Personally, it’s nice to come in and see people happily chatting, drawing, or reading. If you’re looking for a space that encourages work culture then I’d suggest checking out one of awesome...

@puffle_cafe is our newest find on our latest journey to eat through Guelph! One of the biggest things I miss about living in TO is the accessibility to asian foods/pastries and drinks. This super cute cafe had a good variety of sweet and savoury crêpes as well as egg waffles! I was also super excited to see they had traditional viet drip coffee on the menu boasting beans straight from their family farm in Vietnam!

The chocolate lover’s crêpe was prob the best crêpe we’ve ever had! It was soft and thick enough to stand up to the brownie stuffing and chocolate sauce, with crispy edges and crunchy skor to add some variety! It was a tad bit sweet for me but it paired perfectly with bitter viet coffee. The viet coffee unfortunately was a bit watered down for my taste, I think they add more water in addition to ice to fill the whole glass, I would recommend asking for it strong!

We also tried their affogato, which was absolutely delicious and also the best one we’ve ever had (yes, beating out ones we’ve had at gelato places and italian restos!!)

We also loved the cream puff which is reminiscent of a bolo bao with a crispy sugary exterior and filled generously with flavoured cream - we had hazelnut but they also offered coffee and strawberry flavours.

I do wish there were asian flavours offered (e.g. ube, yuzu, matcha red bean, etc.) but I do understand it would be difficult with the average customer demographic in the area to sell these flavours.

Regardless we will return to try other things on the menu! Highly recommend if you’re...

This place is amazing. You have to come here. This is why:

I had a terrible day. One of those days that makes you want to crawl into a hole and, if you can't, you just pray for a hint of human kindness. That, and Fancy Coffee. Because Fancy Coffee solves everything.

Being also trans and queer, respect can be hard to come by sometimes. So it was definitely a long shot going to this place, which I found literally just by googling "coffee" nearest me.

I walked in. First of all, it's beautiful and calm and the design is so cool. It's also a quiet oasis, the tables are spaced well apart and the music is perfect volume. It's such a great ambience, so much natural light and you'd never guess there was a busy intersection outside.

You're gonna dream of this place when winter comes and you want a cozy place to sit and watch the snow!

Second, the owner has all the human kindness you need on a terrible day, and then some. "Fancy coffee?" He said, "Sure! I can do that!" Before he handed my coffee over, he showed it to me just so I could appreciate it, smiling, and said "This is what a fancy coffee looks like! Enjoy."

It honestly made my day. If you're looking for more than just a basic level coffee, if you want somewhere warm and calm to feel human again in these crazy times, Puddle Cafe is your Fancy Coffee Oasis.

Cheers!

p.s. You gotta know where to go! It's a brown building with no blatant signage, right on the corner of Speedvale Ave W. &...

First time visiting this delightful spot recently for a brunch meeting, and I must say, the experience exceeded my expectations. I opted for the Classic Crepe, a choice that turned out to be a wonderful surprise in terms of flavor and presentation. The crepe was expertly prepared, with just the right balance of ingredients, making each bite a delightful experience. Alongside the delicious food, the service was top-notch. The staff were attentive, friendly, and made sure our dining experience was comfortable and enjoyable. The atmosphere of the place added to the overall charm, with a pleasant and inviting ambiance that made the meal even more enjoyable. Based on this experience, I would heartily recommend this place to anyone looking for a great brunch spot. It's a place I would definitely love to return to, perhaps to try other dishes on their enticing menu.
