I'm not quite sure how Rocky's has such a high rating, although I imagine the better ones are from Guelph-raised people who are incorporating their feelings of nostalgia into the rating. As a Guelphite, born and raised, I grew up going to Rocky's after fishing at the OR. I hadn't been there in about 30 years so I thought I'd go down memory lane and take my husband who has never been there. How embarrassing to talk this place up only to be highly disappointed. Two hot dogs (9" not footlongs), a chili dog, and a very small order of fries was $30! I can't imagine how busy this place would be if the food was actually good. It's got such a great history it could be a landmark. Instead of tasty and juicy hotdogs, they serve bendy/rubbery, tasteless and dry "meat" sticks that taste like they were boiled and left out to dry. I had to lift my bun to find the dog buried under the bun and the overkill of condiments. In my mind, I was expecting chip truck quality fries and ended up with a small bag of soggy, greasy, certainly frozen fries. The older man at the counter was less than reciprocal to my enthusiastic friendliness, seemed confused entering the total on the debit machine, and had enough dirt under his nails he could grow his own potatoes. Overall, a very disappointing visit to a childhood favourite. The owners are definitely not interested in serving delicious food, but rather milking the...
Read moreBest smash burger in town. The patties are all beef, standard 4 oz size, nicely seasoned, buns are top quality, and condiments are great. Love the pickles especially, they are very thinly sliced. Really great vibe inside the little restaurant too. Rick even makes his own special condiments from time to time, like hot peppers, which are super good. Dogs were juicy and had a great flavour, and the buns were perfect. Onion rings and fries are delish. The staff will answer any questions you have about the food. I highly recommend this place for fast food that is not ultra-processed, while still being fairly priced given the cost of food these days. I got two cheeseburgers with double cheese + o rings on top for $13 after tax. Remember Burger's Priest, folks? Cost more than that for a single burger.
Rick is a kind and generous guy in my experience. They will customize your order to a T. Get a double patty if you want more meat. They kindly put onion rings on my burger though that's not an option listed on the menu.
I can't recommend this place enough, it's a gem. Wonderful staff and excellent classic fast food. Been here probably ten times in the last month. Gotta get all my Rocky's in before they shut for the winter. Really appreciate what they offer...
Read moreThis is an unassuming little place that is a bit off the beaten path but it is an amazing place for what it is (and I give them 5 stars based on what they are, this is not a comparison to fine dining). They are kind of like a fixed-location food truck in terms of the food they serve, but it is very enjoyable and always leaves me satisfied. Their foot-long hotdogs are served in a European style with onion and tomatoes and are shockingly good for the price you're paying. The fries and onion rings are prepared as you order so everything is provided hot and tasty. Absolutely love dropping by Rocky's when they're open. Note that this is a small business, with no indoor seating so the better weather is great as they put out a good bit of patio seating outside, but they are occasionally closed if the family has a weekend away or whatever. Worth...
