Cafe Greek Garden — Restaurant in Guelph

Just got back from what could only be described as the most uncomfortable and awful dining experience. My family and I have been going to this place for roughly 10 years, we came to bring a visiting family friend thinking our dining experience would be as great as it was before, but we were very wrong. It’s disheartening to see this place go as downhill as it has today. At no point did any one of the servers or staff smile or make us feel welcomed. Even from first walking in there was no welcoming hello or good evening just “where do you want to sit”. Then as we were ordering drinks one of our party members asked “can i have a coke?” and the server very rudely responded with “why are you asking? no you cant have a coke.” trying to make a point of how he asked it instead of telling her? it made all of us extremely uncomfortable, i’m not sure if it was supposed to be a joke but it came off as very sarcastic and rude. And as we were getting handed drink/food, no words spoken at all. Very strange. Then we get the appetizer the one where they light it and say “Opa!” but again, lady just lights it saying nothing. Very awkward feeling. We try to play it off, however then comes the mains. After getting our dishes, nobody at all comes to check on us or how the food is going like how every restaurant in the world does. After a long time we all needed refills but again nobody came to our table. My mother had to flag someone down but after multiple times was flat out ignored so we waited until finally someone listened to her and very rudely came over. Then as my sister was eating her rice, she pulls a hair out of her mouth. We complained after having to wait again for server to come to our table. Then after telling the server about the hair, she immediately gets defensive and says “well that happens sometimes. i cant control where hair goes.” we were all shocked at this response. not even an apology. and then after telling her that she didnt check on our table she starts arguing with my mother back and forth just being super defensive. then just tells us “dont leave a tip then”. It was very uncomfortable to witness. Absolutely horrendous service. Just the attitude since the start gave me feelings of being unwanted even though we were paying customers. I’m surprised anyone even eats here anymore.

And if you need more proof of the defensive behaviour of these staff just read the responses they leave on other peoples reviews. Again we have been going here for nearly 10 years and it is not the same place it was. Extremely unprofessional. And food quality was not even worth the amount paid for. I've always thought this place to be one of the finer restaurants in town. The order I had delivered tonight was disappointing. From the moment the food arrived, it all went downhill.

First off, the driver was without a float and ultimately received an additional nine dollars on top of an eight dollar delivery fee. Ouch! Fine? Not!!

On unpacking the bag, no forks, no napkins, no salt pepper = No skipping dishes and a toilet roll at the table. How fine is this?

To next find that the salads contained the entire lettuce, including parts that I would have discarded, not so fine.

The potatoes too tomato flavored, dry, overcooked and tough. The rice was half cooked and dry. No lemon on the side to try to make it palatable. The pork and chicken pieces were nice - both the flavour and size of the pieces good, but partner found them both on the tough side. Not such a fine experience overall.

Compared with the price of two shwarma meals delivered, this was 2.5 times more and much of it was left uneaten. While I can appreciate that all things have increased in cost across the board, it shouldn't come with such a drop in quality. A meal that leaves one hungry with a full plate should not be priced this high. Hoping it was just a bad night for you.

But what I really cannot tolerate is the manner in how people approach their jobs. If the pay sucks, find different work. Employers will discover that they get what they pay for. This delivery issue is out of control. Asking how I will pay and not being prepared to accept that tender type is a failure. End of story. The restaurant has to accept that.

Drivers without cash floats - now if I were a buck short would you still leave the meal? I doubt it. But this flip side bs is nuts. That you aren't prepared for work yet pocket 9 additional dollars - this is the opposite of why one would tip you - amounts to nothing less than being extorted for my meal!!

This is the last time I will tolerate this from any food delivery driver and any restaurant.

I will insist you idle by as I go to the store to get the exact change for you, basically, doing your job for you, and the tip will be 0. I will leave you very poor feedback and include your plate and or your vehicle description. I work hard to do my job wel - as should anyone with a job. Charging me 8 dollars for a couple of blocks is not exactly outrageous, but extorting 17 bucks???!!!! Fail. Fail. Fail.

Besides that we love coming to Café Greek Garden, and that is one of my family favorite restaurants, we come because of their delicious food and their amazing service.

We (my family and I) keep coming back because of the wonderful and outstanding service that we received from Stephanie.

Stephanie shows us that she cares. She is super helpful, friendly, and polite.

Kudos to Stephanie and keep up with the amazing service

Update on July 12th, 2022.

My wife, my 2½ years old son, and I came to dine-in at Cafe Greek Garden.

The Chef Setar recognized my son and I from so many times that we have come for takeout.

Chef Setar was wonderful, and he spoiled my son with a special kids meal.

We were assisted by Joan. He was very polite, friendly and helpful. Joan gave us great menu recommendations.

We got our food served, and the presentation, details, and portions were phenomenal

We were delighted with our food and how delicious it was.

We will definitely come to dine-in more often.

I am so happy that this restaurant is so close to my house.

After a long time ordering take-out, I finally came in person to the Cafe Greek Garden to pick up my order and check out the restaurant.

The restaurant itself is very well set up, clean and organized, and with a great atmosphere.

Their food is simply delicious and always very fresh.

The Cafe Greek Garden is one of my family favorite restaurants.

The two young ladies who assisted me when I went, they were very friendly and professional (Thursday, March 17th, 2022, around 8:20 p.m.).
