I had often looked at this spot through a bus window as we drove by, but had never visited. I am so glad now that I did!! The owners are so gracious - amazing service and food! They had the distancing thing down pat. We got there about an hour 15 before closing and they were full. While we browsed in the store, they came out to tell us that they had a table if we still wanted one. The Tamarind juice brought me back to the south and the Passion Fruit juice brought my friend back to Mauritia. The food is perfect for sharing or on your own. We had the QUESADILLA MEXICAN, SHRIMP TACO, MEXICAN TACO, AREPA COLOMBIAN (quite different from Jamaican Bammy made from Cassava but really tasty), CHURRO WITH ICE CREAM for dessert. Every bit was scrumptious. At a time when travelling doesn't suit, the vibe of this lovely place made me feel like I was. Their gift shop has beautiful hand made jewelry and purses, spices and sauces, juices, Mexican Hot Chocolate, guava paste (great for making latin style pastries with cream cheese), and much more. This is not just a restaurant - it is an experience. We...
Read moreThis unassuming corner restaurant/cafe/store offers probably the best Latin American food in Halifax.
The staff is super friendly and were accommodating as we were near the breakfast/dinner cut off and some of us wanted breakfast and some wanted lunch items. But they said no problem and we all got what we wanted.
The food was excellent. Tastes just like the best homemade Latin food I've ever had. Every one of the six of us raved about the quality of our respective meals and cafe con leche.
The ambiance is also incredibly well done. Simple, yet effective in creating a warm Latin themed interior with artwork and paint schemes that dried beans and seeds on display.
Simply unparrelled among food options of this type. But the place also has a small shop for Latin American foodstuffs. Get your corn flour and hot peppers here!
Also handmade Latin...
Read moreGone downhill over the last year. I used to like this place and hadn't been in over a year. Was in the area today so though I should go there with my wife. The fact the place was completely empty, literally, at noon on a Thursday should have been our cue to leave. From past experience we stuck it out and simply got a stare for reception. The service was simply as minimal as possible. While we were waiting for our lunch, a man walked in, asked for the washroom, was refused, and the proceeded to pee (yes, urinate) by the entrance with full frontal view. The staff didn't do a thing, they didn't mention a thing to us, didn't clean it up (if anybody was to walk in the restaurant they would drag-in more than water...) Anyway, there's more but that's ought to be enough. Never again for us which is too bad for a place I...
