Lakeside Bar & Grill at Best Western Plus Chocolate Lake — Restaurant in Halifax

This was the second time we had eaten there. The first time was perfect, no complaints. But yesterday (Sunday June 17) we went for a late fathers day lunch. The restaurant was not busy, there were only about 4-5 tables occupied when we were seated. Our server was not very friendly at first but seemed to warm up a little as our meal went on. We were there for a little over an hour and most of that was waiting, for both our drinks and our meal. Hard to do when you have two young children. (A wait would have been understandable had the restaurant been busier). When we finally got our food, it was great. We enjoyed our meal and then waited for our dishes to be taken. We were asked if we would like to see the dessert menu and I said we will have a quick look. While we waited again my husband took the kids outside on the patio for a change of scenery while I waited to place a to-go order for dessert. By this time there was only one other table occupied (who had come in at least 10 minutes after us). The same server approached them as they were also finished their meal and instead of offering a dessert menu, instead offered them a complimentary dessert for their wait.. I am disappointed as our wait was certainly longer but we were not offered anything complimentary. (Not that I expect anything free, but if you are going to offer it to one table for this reason when there is only one other table in the restaurant and not offer to them when they had a similar experience, I think, is unfair). I sort of watched the servers interactions with this table a little more closely after this and they appeared to be treated much better than our table was. While the hotel itself is fine. I mean having a pool and an arcade for the kids is definitely nice and for our purposes it's a very convenient location. The very disappointing part of our stay was the restaurant.

Breakfast is all right but we arrived in the evening and wanted dinner. The dining room was about 40% of capacity. They had plenty of staff on hand but for some reason service was extremely slow.

After putting in our order it took an absurdly long time for them to actually bring us the food and then after we were done eating to have someone come by to even check if we wanted dessert or ask us if we wanted to bill took an unreasonable amount of time. And even when we did tell them we were ready to leave and just wanted to pay, they would come by leave the bill a ridiculous amount of time later and then require another 5 minutes or so for them to come back and ask us if we need the machine. Although the food looked delicious, we never got a chance to find out. The hostess was very nice; seating us and bringing us water. AND THEN WE WAITED! The waitress walked by us several times while serving customers who were seated after us. We eventually asked if she was looking after our section, to which she replied yes and that she would be with us shortly. Shortly turned into quite the wait. We left and thanked that hostess for the waters. When we checked in, the gal at the front desk has recommended this establishment.
