The following has to be seen in the current context where many local restaurant owners struggle to keep their businesses alive. Also, not forgetting that financially it might be hard for some of them to continue offering good quality food and services while prices continue to rise.
I went to celebrate my friend’s sister's birthday, who was craving some spicy Caribbean food (I really mean it when I say spicy). We got a reservation for eight people. At the beginning, the owner was friendly and welcoming. Service was good, but then I kind of felt uncomfortable as he started to ask for our names and he just decided to call us random surnames based on how we looked or what we said (why ask for our names then?).
We waited for at least an hour and a half before the plates started to arrive. I found it odd that some plates had fries and a "salad" on the side, they were literally four to five leaves and fries on a tiny the plate.
As for my order, my roti was ok. Honestly, I was expecting something really spicy as I came last time and I had a good experience. This time was different as I really felt the quality went down very much.
Some people at my table paid at least 29 dollars to get small portions of tiny meat that were not very filling. One friend was trying to be nice to the owner since he was making jokes all the time. He said since he called himself the picky one, he would choose ‘blindfolded’ with his finger. He said, "I want a chicken burger." The owner laughed and said, "You are pointing to the poutine." Everyone laughed, and then he said, "I am joking, I am going to get the chicken burger, please." When he came with his order, he brought the poutine. My friend told him that he ordered a chicken burger, but the owner had a ‘sassy’ attitude and said, "No, you ordered poutine and poutine is what I am bringing." It was the first time I saw this type of confrontation between an owner and a client, as he did not even say sorry or try to explain that he misunderstood. He tried to blame our friend while the whole table heard that at the end, he explicitly said chicken burger.
The cherry on the cake that made me write this review, was the poor conditions of hygiene in the washroom. The room smelled very strongly of some sort of dampness or mold. Also, when I turned myself next to the toilet, I saw the toilet brush. It was repulsively full of a black and white mass, which made me ask myself, if this is the condition of the washroom, what could the rest of it be like?
Overall, it was an odd experience with the service. The owner tried just at the very end to apologize to my friend, but he never actually said that. He just prepared the burger right when we were going to pay (not before when my friend confronted him to ask him that this is not what he ordered). I definitely will not return to...
Read moreSept 2025: First time back in years and SO glad I came! Breakfast at 9am on a sunny Saturday. I was the only customer seated in the rear/main dining area. Very friendly service. Delicious free banana bread while you wait, that tastes like it is made with corn meal vs flour. Delicious Naan Bread Breakfast Wrap. Burrito-style presentation with very maply-flavored bacon & scrambled eggs, mozzarella inside. Drizzled with balsamic & mango. Side salad & potato wedges cooked perfectly make this very filling. Due to being in a bit of a rush, I got up to pay vs waiting for the bill. Then realized a mug of hot rosehip water was waiting for me, so had a few sips of that and wish I had time to finish. Can't wait to return.
2020: *Note that this is two businesses in one kitchen - which I didn't realize until today when I went for the 2nd time. The owner Eli explained that he does the Caribbean food/lunch/later day menu and the Breakfast Bliss on weekends is owned by someone who rents the space. I love both. He is so friendly and very informative about the dishes, cares about your personal preferences, etc. We sat in the back dining area and were the only customers this visit. I tried the Jerk chicken lunch special which is a breast and leg on top of rice & beans. Delicious and although spicy, not as hot as thought it could be, very juicy, filling. Eli suggested the mango punch to go along with it and that was very flavorful as well, a bit creamy. My friend had the BBQ chicken lunch special and really enjoyed the flavor of that as well, eating every last grain of rice on the plate and every scrap off the bone. LOL Both come with a mini pitcher of their respective sauces, if you wish to pour more over the plate, which we did. I want to try everything else on this menu, including some of the dessert made in-house!
Tried Breakfast Bliss for the first time on a sunny Saturday in August 2020, taking one of the tables outside (they have two picnic tables and I think four regular tables) right along the sidewalk. Lots of available street parking. Didn't see their interior dining room which is out back. Menu items are printed on pieces of plain paper and hung on the wall when you enter. The counter and kitchen are fully open so you can see what's going on. Staff of three or four people were busy working away, very pleasant and friendly. I ordered the Eggs benny ($17.50) with bacon (option of avocado too) on an English muffin (option of a buttermilk biscuit I believe) with potato wedges (also option of a salad). Took maybe 10-15 minutes to arrive but that was fine as coffee was served immediately with a large glass bottle of water. The meal was great and I was very full. They have a lot of sweet breakfast dishes that I will be...
Read moreCaribbean Bliss & Breakfast Cafe is a delightful gem that I had the pleasure of visiting during a recent trip to the area. As someone from Trinidad and Tobago, the allure of Caribbean flavors and ambiance is always near and dear to my heart, and Caribbean Bliss did not disappoint in that regard.
The atmosphere of this establishment is simply wonderful. The seating space is beautifully designed, offering a warm and inviting Caribbean vibe that immediately puts you in a relaxed state of mind. The fusion of vibrant colors, tropical decor, and soothing island tunes sets the stage for an enjoyable dining experience.
For breakfast, Caribbean Bliss doesn't offer the typical, authentic Caribbean dishes you might expect, but they cleverly incorporate a hint of Caribbean cuisine into their menu. I couldn't resist trying the Roti Breakfast, a unique twist on Trinidad's authentic Dhalpuri. Imagine Dhalpuri stuffed with breakfast favorites like eggs, cheese, bacon, and sausage. This fusion might sound unusual for a Caribbean person, but let me tell you, it was a delightful surprise. The flavors blended seamlessly, and the result was a delicious and satisfying dish that left me craving for more.
I also ventured into Jamaican territory with their Chicken and Waffles, a dish that is not traditionally Caribbean but was a delightful departure from the norm. The flavors were outstanding, and the portion size was generous.
But the real showstopper at Caribbean Bliss & Breakfast Cafe is their dessert menu. The chocolate strawberry-infused cheesecake is a must-try. It's not only incredibly light but also bursting with flavor. It's the perfect sweet treat to end your meal on a high note.
Let's not forget their Mango Fruit Punch, a tropical delight that's so refreshing, it's like sipping on a piece of paradise. I highly recommend giving it a try.
In addition to their breakfast offerings, Caribbean Bliss also offers a variety of Jamaican-style cuisine like Oxtail and more, adding to the diversity of their menu.
Caribbean Bliss & Breakfast Cafe is a unique dining experience that successfully blends Caribbean elements with traditional breakfast fare. The fusion of flavors and the warm, welcoming atmosphere make it a must-visit spot. If you're in the area, don't miss out on the opportunity to savor the Caribbean-inspired dishes and indulge in the scrumptious desserts. I can confidently say that you'll love it just as...
