Just bought three 24 cases of bear from Clifford Brewing. The attendant charged HST to the sale. At that time the attendant got somewhat testy when I questioned the tax as typically tax is not applicable. Today I checked the Ontario Finance web site fin.gov.ont.ca and confirmed that the tax on the sale is not applicable. I phoned Clifford today and talked to the same sales attendant. He was very aggressive and confrontational. He rudely blurted out that tax added is their sales method then shouted to return the beer if I did not like his policy. He immediately hung up. I will be contacting the Province on Monday. I will be returning the beer. A one star rating is too much. Just read the response from Clifford. The quoted price of the purchase in question, at that time had HST added after the quote. The owners reply of his intent to show the HST separated is believable and most likely the original intention although not a typical Beer or Wine sales action. The owners intention, integrity or honesty are not being questioned. Defiance, disrespect and other employee attitude aimed at the customer is the issue. It is not excusable as are shouting and hanging up on the customer. The owner is suspect for the employees embolden behaviour and is partially confirmed by that persons...
Read moreGood variety of delicious craft beer. I had a flight and enjoyed everything on it. I took a few cans to go including Spider Palace, which wasn't on tap, so I couldn't include on my flight. The can lists it as a "white stout." I was intrigued by the flavor profile, described as almonds, coffee, and cocoa nibs. I did a little more reading on it on their website to find that it's actually a blonde ale.
Had some time this evening to give it a try. I don't know what kind of witchcraft is happening here, but this beer is phenomenal. It has all the great flavor notes that you love from a balanced and well made stout, but it's light and easy to drink like a blonde ale. It has a slight bitterness on the finish as one would expect from a stout, and one I usually associate with the dark roasted malts of which there are apparently none in this beer. All of the beer was very good but I am particularly impressed with the Spider Palace.
Keep up the great work,...
Read moreSolid local spot. Lovely place to pop in for a friendly pick up, sneak in for a pint, or enjoy an evening and get tipsy. All the beers are at least good. Not as off the wall as the big Hamilton Brewer, but still easily my favourite brewery in the Hammer.
Czech Lager is nearly perfect, and is my go to (ever since a certain Toronto brewery just can’t make their Pilsner right anymore).
Spider Palace is a wild concoction that’s absolutely delicious. It sounds weird, and it is weird, but it’s a beer I always enjoy.
East Hamilton lager is full flavour, and crushable, Chain Link (Vienna) is right in the pocket for the style, but less “sessionable”.
ESB and IPAs are all good and enjoyable in a flight, but just not my preference...
