Went to this Bakery many times and always had a decent experience. Nothing out of the ordinary, but nothing that would stop us from going again. We are Gluten Free and this bakery stood out amongst the many due to their Gluten Free variety
Unfortunately the latest experience that we had was not pleasant at all and after giving the Bakery an opportunity to provide their own feedback (side of the story), I have come to the conclusion that they simply don't care for their gluten free customers any longer. As a result, we will not be going back here and will happily take our business to other bakeries.
The experience: They recently shifted their Gluten Free business to be online order only (meaning you could not just pop by for Gluten Free items), which has its pros and cons depending on the type of consumer you are. When ordering, we noticed their GF section did not include many items that were normally found in the bakery. In the special request section, we kindly made a note that if the items ordered were not available, then please let us know....3 days later we went to get our items and upon arrival, we were told that 8 of the 9 items we ordered were not available since we did not order from the GF menu. Under normal customer service standards, this would be the time when the employee apologizes for the inconvenience, rather than assume that the customer would simply accept this. However I now realize that this bakery does not follow normal standards and instead the woman looked at me as though I was the fool for placing a misguided order. So like most people would say, I asked why they did not contact us to let us know about this, and she simply replied that she did. In my mind, I thought...gee, that's strange, my wife never misses anything and would have told me, but she is 9 months pregnant and I should probably give the lady the benefit of the doubt....away I left, with just 1 of 9 items ordered.
As soon as I hit the car, I told my wife the news, and she proceeded to search high and low for said communication... you probably know what I will say next...and you're right, there was no communication! At this point, we were none too happy, so rather than writing a poor review right then and there, I thought I would give them an opportunity to apologize via email and perhaps make up for the fact that we drove 30 minutes out of our way and left empty handed for a 30 minute drive back without an order that was intended as a birthday gift.
The response included a subtle apology, the following admission "Upon further investigation with the email we sent, it was returned via mailer-daemon unable to send", and a note about no more gluten free items starting in 2021.
Not sure what I was expecting, but I guess something to secure my business would have been nice....mistakes happen, and they can easily be mended. However since they no longer will be serving GF in the new year, I guess they felt my business would be gone anyway.
If that's how a business treats any customer - new or old, then good riddance, and I hope others see this and choose to go elsewhere.
(note: as you see from the above, the latest response from the bakery was that they will no longer service ANY gluten free items come the...
Read moreVisited this bakery for the first time on Saturday with my husband as we wanted crepes. The younger woman behind the counter was very pleasant and I asked for the lemon and sugar crepe with strawberries because the board says an extra $2 for extra items. She looked over at who I assume is the owner who looked mildly exasperated and said, sure we can do that. My husband ordered the apple and cinnamon crepe and she asked if he wanted maple syrup and he said no, so I asked if I could have his on mine and she said no problem. We went outside to wait on the picnic table and about 10 minutes later the owner brings them out, no maple syrup. I asked if I could have some and she rudely told me that the lemon crepe “doesn’t come with it”... what? This is Canada, who doesn’t have maple syrup on their crepes? I explained I had asked for it and was told yes and she even more rudely repeated that it doesn’t come with it and I wasn’t charged for it. I repeated again that I had asked for it, meaning that I wanted it. She snatched it off the table and huffed back inside, brought my crepe back out and repeated that I hadn’t been charged for it. Sorry, but if your employee makes a mistake (which I don’t think she did, I think the owner just didn’t put it on) that’s your problem, not mine. Don’t stand there arguing with me about what I ordered and can or cannot have on what I ordered. If she really wanted me to pay the $2 for the syrup I would have, but it’s ridiculous because the apple one supposedly came with it and my husband didn’t want it, so it’s not like we asked for extra. The crepes were mediocre at best and we’d definitely won’t be back. Very poor attitude...
Read moreI've been to a few gluten-free/health-friendly stores in the Hamilton area in the past year or so, and all of them have been pretty decent. I've purchased some cookies and muffins from Ya'd Never Know and they were pretty decent for a gluten-free product. However, they were (and remain) totally overpriced. Whenever I have purchased any food product (i.e. lasagna, quiche, pies, etc) they are dry, flavorless and sometime stale. For example, I recently purchased two pies (one chicken and one tortiere) 2 brownies and a box of cookies. Altogether, this cost me $35. Yes, $35. These are single-person products, by the way. The pies, which were tried by myself and other family members, were dry, flavorless and LOADED with herbs (i.e. rosemary) that overpowered everything. All you could taste, was herbs. That's it. The brownies were hard and could hardly be chewed. And the cookies (which were $8.50 for a small container) were rock-hard. On top of that, the owner barely spoke to us, the staff member who helped us was quiet and didn't seem to have a clue as to how to describe their products, and for $35 I could have purchased better products from Goodness Me (that would be much more worth while). If you're looking for gluten-free products, I'd recommend skipping this place. Try Marci's Bakery or Kelly's Bake Shoppe in Burlington. Still not cheap, but definitely more worth your while and $$$. Not to mention, the staff and owners are...
